I must disagree with this review. I think the title track and To Live Is To Die are some of the best Metallica songs of all time. The songs' massive length adds to the epic quality that the songs possess.

ehhhh naw. I LOVE the main riff and lyrics of the title track, and the main riff of TLITD, but the repetition is boring till the end.



That´s this album main flaw: Why (unnecessarily) repeat riffs and sections OVER and OVER again for the sake of it?

I wasn't bothered by the repetition in the title track or TLITD, but I do know where you are coming

from. "The Frayed Ends of Sanity," "The Shortest Straw" and a couple of other tracks do repeat riffs

to the point where the songs become boring. Still, this album kicks ass imo.

re-jammed this fully today. Frayed ends of sanity is such an underrated song, along with Harvester of Sorrow and Eye of the Beholder. IMO Shortest Straw is the weakest link here.



This album can be perfected SOO EASILY, just removing some parts that go nowhere (the title track being the strongest offender, with some AWESOME but repetitive riffing) and giving the bass more presence.



The tone of the album is PERFECT, specially on To live is to die and on HoS and EotB. BTW, Dyers eye should have come after FeoS, and Tlitd should have been the closing track.

Wow did not expect that rating. This is actually my favorite Metallica album (and thrash metal album) of all time, surprised people hate it so much.



The album is much heavier than their previous albums but manages to strike the perfect balance between anger and melody.
