Here's a memo to Barnicles and Stripes, who has a whole 3 comments to his record. Before you call a band out, know something.... and i dont mean about the band your dissing, but in general.

I have always been known to have a great taste in music. I never had strong feelings about greenday one way or the other. They have some great songs, but I would never call an entire album great. They had plenty of great individual songs such as Basket Case or Minority. They were songs you can really enjoy playing.
This Particular album was very well put together, although some songs could have been made much better. However, I find that as soon as I grow tired of listening to one song on this album, I find comfort in another. At this point, I am enjoying Whatshername.
People who are dedicated enough in their hatred for this group to come to this site, waste their time reading it and posting up something that only takes up useful space, they don't realize that the rest of us know that they pathetic and wasting their lives.
My opinions on music is only based on how well constructed it is. And typically in punk-rock (yes, greenday is punk) powerchords are almost always used, but greenday knows how to use them. And don't say that they are taking it from other songs, because Everything can be linked to something.

good review. ok album. i like a few songs from it, but as an entire thing i don't see anything special. It has been called a 'rock opera'. on that front, the story line is weak and unclear. the only reason its been called a rock opera is because of a few long songs...i fail to see the story in them. i like jesus of suburbia, but both it and homcoming are written in the same 5 piece nine minute format used by the who on their mini opera "a quick one while he's away". also compared to Tommy, this story has nothing. but the good news is it show green day is capable of making albums that arent based on 3 minute long punk pop songs. if they continue to develop more concepts, their next album could be the really great.
oh and american idiot is a terrible song. i agree with the message it gets across, but it has hardly anything to do with the rest of the album. bad opener for an opera.

Green Day needs to drop Billy Joe. They need a good vocalist and guitarist
|
| |
and I thought I was the only one who thought he couldn't sing!
|

Green Day has gone down hill ever since Nimrod.

green day has no hard/amazing guitar licks at all. and anyways, billy joe doesnt even play lead guitar on those hard parts....at least he doesnt in concert

That review shouldn't be here, its like - POP PUNK!!!! St. Jimmy reminesces GD the best - similar to Basket Case, but WMUWSE sucks ass! GD can do much better!!!

Ya Billy Joe does suck. But I do think Tre Cool is an exceptional drummer and Mike Dirnt is prety decent.
|

and I thought I was the only one who thought he couldn't sing!
You should've heard him sing at the grammys. His voice seemed like it was cracking.

This album became one of my favourites. Ever, by any band. The fact that it is basically a 60 minute punk opera. that really shouldn't work, but somehow it does.
the fact that the album as a whole follows a narrative is something I absolutely love. the songwriting is up to Green Day's usual standard (v.good in my opinion).
Jesus of Suburbia, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, She's a Rebel, Extraordinary Girl and Letterbomb are the high points for me. But to pick out individual songs is to sell the album as a whole short. To get the best from it, it should be listened to start to finish.
I give it a somewhat healthy 4.5 overall.

they aren't punk

The narrative is really loose. The songwriting is better, but still doesn't make the music good. Even if you do like this, it is no where near 4.5 stars

the review is great but I can't say the album is really

Ok - Good Review
2 Bad Points
Letterbomb is the Best Track On The Album By Far
Wake Me Up When September Ends is ****. it is a real pop song that makes you think of somebody like rooster, not Green Day.

Oh yeah, they should just drop the bands founding and most important member. He's not the greatest guitarist but he certainly isn't a bad vocalist. You all are obsessed with perfection. Punk rock music isn't generally known for being amazing. Just about every punk rock band from the beginning used basic power chords in their songs. Billie Joe is also alot more talented than he shows. Maybe it's a good thing that he doesn't show off. His older stuff was awesome, he just doen't want to show off all the time like some bands.
Yeah, they should dump him.
|
| |
Can someone explain to me why Green Day has another guitarist now? Is it because Billie Joe can't play and sing at the same time any more or something? If so, that's really sad because his songs can be played by a retarded four year old.
|
| |
They need to dump him if they want any chance of having a good band.
