I see it as a stark change in direction that rejects Doolittle's bombastic nature in favor of slower, chiller, surfier and spacier songs. I wouldn't call it a "poppier Doolittle" since I think it honestly isn't like Doolittle at all, nor trying to be

That's exactly what I meant by more commercial. As well as the different style of production. The pixies were made famous for their bombastic hardcore pop songs.

Hell, the biggest reason comeback Pixies sucks so much is because it keeps trying to capture the magic of Doolittle instead of trying to be its own thing.
