Yeah I know he does Ars, I'm just saying that alone would have gotten him a Parental Advisory sticker, he didn't need to go further imo

I don't know when Zappa says something "homophobic" it's kind of like when my friend jokingly calls me a fag. Like he's obviously not doing it out of hate.
Zappa almost comes off as that kind of guy, your friend who makes rude, but harmless jokes.

I'm here for the jams, the lyrics, the theatrics
Zappa is my favorite musician ever, no exceptions

"i think its too easy and intellectually lazy to reduce anyone's work because someone said queer or something"
I'm not dismissing him entirely, I've rated this album 3.5 and have asked to be recommended more of his work. I'll continue listening to this album because I enjoy it. But the hamfisted attempts at satire will continue to annoy me indefinitely

i feel ya i mean i was annoyed by a lot of sheik yerbouti because the satire can be so shallow and juvenile at times. i think zappa didnt even want lyrics so he was like fuck it sometimes lol

Poly, I think you'll love Freak Out! (the song Trouble Every Day is from) It turned 50 this year and is his debut : ) and not too crass.

Sheik Yerbout is hilarious honestly, but yeah it is very over the top, same with You Are What You Is haha, but that's like my 3rd favorite Zappa ever so I don't even know.

My favorite Zappa period is 73-76 Zappa, but my favorite album of his is from the 60s and my 3rd favorite is from the 80s.... honestly I ranked Zappa's entire discography in a list once with descriptions, did you ever see it?

Hot Rats bored me I must admit, I have it at a 3. But with that average of course I feel I'm missing something. Will revisit eventually

Hot Rats is good (my 5th favorite) but when someone tells you its their favorite it usually just means they're not really that into Zappa.

I've heard bands reject rock conventions in more exciting ways than Hot Rats, like that Idiot Flesh album I reviewed yesterday. I should probably keep in mind Hot Rats is from 1969, which is pretty remarkable really.

i think hot rats is a lot of peoples favorites but it is sort of a zappa record that non-fans enjoy, its one of those records like paranoid or something, everyone knows it
