Crazy how AlexKzillion is the voice of reason. .Yeah they are said in the thread , like he said.. but they can still be true even if you all dislike the album
Anyway my point was more like. FUCKING let it go..
Some of you clearly sstill never understand why sputnik became the wasteland it is . I remember when it 1k to 2k ratings (or even more) was common for popular releases
Sure.. The hacking/security problems was the first part that made people leave.
... But the trolling.. The lack of moderation on members that would have get banned on any forums at that time..
And now the kid like behavior from adult men.. Some of which are long standing member ..
Yeah Im sniffing my own farts and believe all you want. Is Mark a little bit too on nose.. Perhaps. Am i ? Maybe, but at least im not being an asshole for the most part .
Im just gonna stay away from commenting, like I did for most of these years, except when people really want to have convos..

I don't care about the trolling. If people haven't got anything better to do than make endless comments about albums they don't enjoy, let them.
Doesn't affect my enjoyment of the music, and sometimes they're even funny... (but not too often)

This record is captivatingly bad.
A style over substance, exercise in developing Charli's lore to nurture the parasocial relationship with her existing die hard fanbase rather than an attempt to write great songs to cultivate a wider audience.
It's confronting, divisive and playing into the heart of the attention economy, where being polarising while feigning deepness is the way to be viewed as a serious artist.
As a piece of art it probably sits alongside Bo Burnham's Inside as a portrait of our times.
I am obsessed with it, but in a way that also depresses me about the way the world is going.
Nothing is going to save us, I don't think.

I don’t like Charli’s attitude towards music and art. I don’t like that she acted that the fame that came along with brat summer was somehow such a horrible experience for her. Talk about first world problems. Do you know how many musicians would literally commit murder for that level of notoriety? And don’t act like you relate to her “struggles,” she now has everything handed to her on a silver platter. And on top of that you have this album which feels like it was made to spite the fans of her wildly successful previous album. She’s out of touch.

“How is it to masturbate to your own trolling thoughts.. It seems to feel good from what I can see”
“but at least im not being an asshole for the most part”
don’t sell yourself short bud
“So yeah, I get you're all feeling confusion because your brassbound brains can't quite cope with all the rules Charli is breaking here, and you all wanted Brat Part 2, but I'm gonna keep enjoying the freshest pop release of the year in all its avante-garde glory...
As I said, some people lack education, so good thing I'm a teacher.”
And I think a little mockery is appropriate for a comment like this

Absolutely agree - mock away! I knew when I wrote that I was being a prat, but inflammatory phrasing aside, I 100% stand by the substance of the comment.
Charli has broken your brains with this one...

Not really... quite mild by Sput standards I think. Just people arguing (and trolling) about music.
|

alright that aside
I don’t think this album is nearly as unconventional as you are making it out to be. It’s not a normal pop album, sure, but she’s not really breaking new ground here. Not even in her catalogue.

if it wasn’t for the artsy fartsy monologue and the amateurish guitars I doubt we’d even be having this discussion
To me it sounds like she took a barebones version of her previous style, threw some guitars and drums on top, and called it a day

Personally, I have never heard anything quite like this before. Okay, I'm not that into pop, but I have heard a lot over the years, and nothing I've heard is comparable - especially given how popular Brat was and her global superstar status. Completely stunned me...
I'm not even a Charli fan really. I liked some of her early singles, and How I'm Feeling Now and Brat were good, but this is the first time I've loved an album of hers. But even then, it's only 4.0 love. I don't think it's some revolutionary landmark album or anything, but it breaks nearly every rule, and it's ace. I love listening to it.

@Gyro - You didn't miss anything, just a small spat but we worked it out. No hard feelings on either side.

above all this is pretty much my problem with it.

this album is pretty much thy slaughter (ag cook + finn keane's band, who produced/plays on the entire album) through the lens of her husband's band at the most basic level. charli even does some vocals on the thy slaughter album
