Not a metal fan, but what have I missed that I really need to check?

Some of these are metal ofc. You probably wing like the Neurosis or Converge albums.

Neurosis, Converge and Modest Mouse are the other three that stick out.

Some are really loving the new Static Dress. It’s good, just not quite something I love I guess.

And of course, best album of the year so far…Deftones Eros.

But best official album release of the year? Definitely Poison the Well’s Peace in Place.

It really does man! I think I made a comment a few pages back saying the same. It feels like a 30 minute album. Just a fun listen…or something like that. And yeah, it didn’t actually sink in for me til the 3rd listen. But I instantly knew on first listen it was at least their best since Drones.

Haven't listened to any Muse since Black Holes, but this was a genuinely enjoyable release.

I dunno. But something!

Have you just listened once? Do you like Muse at all? That’s def a prerequisite lol, this album certainly will not convert anyone, that’s for sure.

I don't know what it is for sure, but there's something here that's missing from the last 4 albums. It just has "it" - whatever "it" is...

I did really like one track, and that's largely the story with everything they'd done since Absolution

"it" might be the lack Queen choirs

Instead we have other influences like Ghost (Dark Forest) or maybe Nothing But Thieves? Also more rock, that's for sure

Yep, Dark Forest is pure 'Year Zero' with those chants.

They just sound inspired here and seem to have realized that putting out bad albums isn't the way to go. I always check in on Muse records out of morbid curiosity but usually skip through and move on, their style on those drifted so far from the Muse I enjoy- this one held my attention.
They're not ever going to put out something like 'Micro Cuts' ever again and that's ok, these tunes are pretty good and a huge step up from what we've been hearing for years.

I think its cohesion, this isn't a pastiche of 30 different genres. The music is focused, and nothing really feels like a random curveball

took another listen today: Origin is a 4.1 and Absolution a 4. Wow! doesn't come close to either of those, so are you all rating it so high? like fr.

This only has 164 votes while those have 3-4k votes. I bet if this had a more mass sampling of votes, it would hover closer to 3.2-3.5.

I loved OoS at the time and for nearly a decade after it dropped, but now I would much rather listen to this. Last 5 songs of OoS are kinda mid really.

OoS is definitely front-loaded but I still consider it to be their masterpiece and…just a masterpiece period.

OOS is on a different level.
It's better than Absolution and Black Holes easily.
I love Uno, Unintended, Sunburn, Muscle Museum and Showbiz from the debut but OOS had tons more depth.
I'm still yet to rate this one, despite enjoying it a lot. I'm still somewhat archaic and download iTunes versions before burning to disc and listening through great headphones. Didn't go for the $39.99 CAD vinyl, just the $9.99 CD.
This is really enjoyable and flies by like others have said, it's a really satisfying listen just in a different way to OOS. It's fun, and I wouldn't really describe the best of Muse's early stuff as that.
