It’s wild for me to grasp that Jane Doe is 25 years old. The band has been around for 36 years. But for scale this coming out today is like comparing a band in 2000 with a release they put out in 1975. Time is getting weird for me. I’m in my mid 30’s. My parents are in their 60’s. They raised me on 70’s and 80’s and while there’s plenty of great music there, a lot of those bands’ releases near 2000 were kinda crap. We millennials and Gen X’s are aging very well I’d say. To hear something like this 25 years after what many consider their best (I still think AWLWLB is their best), but regardless. That’s insane when you think about it.

That is wild using the 75/00 parallel, damn.

“Me: "Hey guys I'm new here and really like pop-punk"
11 people immediately: "Check Jane Doe by Converge"

lol so true. For anyone struggling with Jane, Axe & AWLWLB are much more digestible gateway albums for most people. Jane is their peak but it’s not exactly a gentle entry point

Axe to Fall is their most bonkers album I think. Wonderful album but probably their most inaccessible since their earlier days

It’s hard for me to rate but I’d say AWLWLB then Jane Doe then Axe to Fall as their definitive best and won’t change. I thought this was lower echelon first spin but now I’m beginning to think it’s 4th best. It’ll take me a while to settle I’m sure but my top 3 aren’t changing. Been solidified for a long time

Jane doe is probably one of the most abrasive and and hardest albums to get into as a first listen of a band. Especially if you arent used to something as intense as Jane

I started JD once and when the vocals kicked in I bursted with laughter. This is where I stand with this band rn. But it’s always great to see the hype train running through these apocalyptic fields. The next time I get frustrated and wanna smash sb with a baseball bat, I’ll give AWLWLB a try. Title seems apt.

yea i hated jd when i first heard it. probably took me a year of returning to it until it clicked. now it's easily in my top 20. i can't say that for too many albums i had at around a 2.5 when i first heard 'em. jd has this weird magnetism where even though you may hate it at first it keeps calling you back. like i said im not sure i've ever experienced that before or since.

That was my exact experience as well. Weird magnetism indeed. I could barely stand Jane at first yet kept returning. A little while after I got into You Fail Me & PTES. Then No Heroes dropped and I was hyped af. I’m not sure at which point the tide turned exactly because even during the YFM / PTES years I wasn’t always wanting to hear Jane. Exposure therapy or something, haha.

AWLWLB is def easiest Converge. But I’m failing to see where Axe to Fall is easy. No way in hell that’s in there as easiest

For me I put Jane Doe on my iPod and I liked it for the shock factor to show my friends and I wasn’t for sure I even really liked it at the time but I kept listening to it over and over and did. Everything after has been easy listening since. Despite me not seeing Jane Doe as their best album, that run from Phoenix in Flames thru to Thaw to Jane Doe is the best stretch of anything they’ve ever done. Phoenix in Flames not even being acknowledged as one of their best moments is quite a fail. That song is fucking killer.

You’ll only get me in the good ones. Or at least the ones worth of multiple glances at the comments. Otherwise I just leave a comment and go away

"To me this feels like No Heroes but better"

That's virtually impossible when No Heroes has songs like t/t, Grim Heart/Black Rose, Plagues, Orphaned and Bare My Teeth, there's nothing remotely close to those songs here

I need more time with this. The current state of play is that I’m prepared to put it above Halo, Dusk (& Bloodmoon) but nothing else & that’s absolutely fine. There’s plenty of time for a rise up the ranks and the competition is stiff.
