Glad to hear the roars back! Not their strongest offering, but a fun listen so far. JethrOpet(h)ull?

Wait a minute, I'm on the second last track and this thing has slapped front-to-back. A little funky, a little '70s proggy, pretty heavy, seductive at times. BIG TIME fun, with some absolutely wild soloing. What am I not supposed to like here? It has "hooky motifs" at times, more than actual hooks, I guess. And that could be a down side. People saying the back half is weak? Bruh, I dunno about dat, but I'm still one song away from completion.

“ While § is usually read in spoken English as the word "section", many other languages use the word "paragraph" exclusively to refer to a section of a document (especially of legal text), and use other words to describe a paragraph in the English sense. Consequently, in those cases "§" may be read as "paragraph",”
This actually makes a lot of sense though because the concept of the album being a Will and all that

Yeah it does nash!
And definitely don't agree with the second half being weak here either. That's where most of my faves are.

Ya, this is super dense, well-written, purposeful, but fun, creative, a little silly, has energy - which is all kind of hilarious considering the context of the music within the album concept. Right from the first song they show us that side with the major chord "Enacted Grief" harmony. BANGER album.
This is a wildly pleasant surprise. I don't dislike "Newpeth" but had gotten used to these guys being a "consistent" band, like ABR or Cannibal Corpse. "Opeth will never release a complete piece of shit, but their best days are behind 'em" kind of thing. Then they go and do this. This cooks, and cooks 'ard. The entirety of Fear Innocolum is less good than just the first track of this album. Can't believe how detailed, yet approachable this is! Gets better after more listens, too!!

Yeah very big agree there Pat! Album is fantastic, especially "super dense, well-written, purposeful, but fun, creative, a little silly, has energy" 100%. That has been the case for all of the good post-Watershed stuff for me: Heritage, ICV, and to a lesser extent PC. I am still waiting to find this side to Sorceress, but it might just be there too.
"Gets better after more listens, too!!" Also this yeah! Have been listening to it a l~o~t over the last couple of weeks, and it's been growing non stop!

Good comments Postman!!!
Very precise references too - if ABR, CC and Tool had a baby it would be this album.

It’s like you combine both of their sounds, and they do both of them poorly

After around 6 listens I had to bump it up. One of my favorites of 2024 for sure. Kinda falls off a bit with the last 2 tracks but as a whole this album is so much fun

an opeth album sitting at 3.8 in 2024 is pretty cool considering watershed came out in my senior year of high school

I can’t stand the fact that they don’t settle into a motif and groove. There are “hooky motifs” but they end so abruptly. It’s like BTBAM. Good, almost amazing, parts but not…songs. I do like paragraph 1.

And it's exactly why I really like Opeth!
Must be around that number for me too Titan. It's very addictive.
