"On 6 listens now and so far this album feels like the tightest marriage of all their elements to me"
YESSS. That's my impression too! That's why I think this could be actually my fav DS, and that's saying a lot coming from a huge fan. Sick album

That's a bit of a stretch. Each musician is operating at their absolute best here.

Was hoping I'd get a bunch of people to disagree with me so I could point that out lol

"Think I like a few more than this but it’s still fuckin badass. A bit less weirdo than Sanguinary" (2)
I do like the melding of previous elements into a cohesive whole here, but whether it has that extra ingredient to push it over the top / separate is tbd. The sheer consistency may elevate it eventually. It's another great addition to their discog either way

Think I've jammed this like 8 times since Friday
It is definitely more immediate than sanguinary, which isn't inherently a bad thing. Sanguinary had some weirdo shit like someone mentioned to really give it a unique identity but yeah a lot of the rhythm section on this is pretty weirdo/unconventional too
Band is so good

"The sheer consistency may elevate it eventually."
You were spot-on when you called it "immediate". I feel like they managed to make their sound more accessible without compromising on what defines them, if that makes sense, which is a big achievement in itself and emphasizes the fact they're great at writing on top of being skilled. I prefer SI ever so slightly, but this is a no-nonsense banger front to back.

Sanguinary is weird? nah man. It just kicks ass in ways you're not used to getting your ass kicked
What's interesting is this album is scored much higher on RYM than SI but imo is not quite as good (though probably just familiarity bias on my part)

On RYM, people seem to have a tendency to listen once, rate, and jump on the next wagon. Higher avg could confirm this one's immediacy or could just as well be based on SI having almost three times as many votes.

This album does slap immediately man... It's going to be really hard to determine the AOTY. Ulcerate, Brodequin, Blood Incantation, this one... Jeez man what an awesome year

First jam on my hifi last night after a dozen spins in the car and I actually ended up flipping my couch (and myself) right over whilst headbanging. Pretty sure it was Vascular Famine that did it but I lost track.
I probably looked like an autistic kid throwing a temper tantrum but I had the time of my life!
