I think I’m gonna give this another shot. I feel like a poser™️ for being so picky with bm. I only like more avant-garde shit like DSO or Imperial Triumphant or more aggressive types like blackened death or hardcore. I’ve seriously never been able to get into atmo bm… aside from some of Wolves in the Throne Room but even then I don’t love all their records.
oh and blackgaze… I adore Oathbreaker (which WAS basically blackened metalcore before Rheia went full blackgaze) and Deafheaven ofc
My biggest problem with a lot of it is that I need some fuckin RIFFS to latch onto, not just endless chord progressions no matter how interesting, I also think that’s why I dug Lonely People With Power so much, that motherfucker had riffs for days.

I might try to do the same. I think so much black metal really fits the soulslike genre so well.
I jammed so much death metal while playing Doom Eternal, gonna try to find some real medieval sounding shit for when I finally get around to playing Dark Ages.
Oh and Sigh was perfect for Sekiro, I jammed so much of I Saw the World’s End while playing that and Ghost Of Yotei / Tsushima.
