I don't think all scenecore is terrible though and like I said if u knew my taste you'd know that. Stand Up and Scream is an easy 4.5 for me. One of the funnest albums ever made and some of the best vox.

Yeah Stand Up and Scream got some bangers.
I respect your take as long as I'm 100% confident that you're not forcing it to keep up an image

Dude I have no image around here lmao. I like what I like I don't give a fuck what it is or what genre or what anyone else thinks about it. If its good its good.

Gotcha. I'm just confused then lol because I can't really hear a difference stark enough to demand such a harsh pivot in opinion from the previous album, and have it not be "it's just a boring repeat."

And hawks correct me if im wrong dont want to speak for you
Its possibly that hawks and i dont delve into metalcore all that often these days and when we hear something that doesnt distiguish itself we are harsh and come off as arseholes. For me this is just that same early 2000s-mid 2000s core sound like Norma jean/Misery signals/all that remains etc. Sure that sound was pretty great back then but theres been no improvement or anything to stand out from that sound

I mean I still dig metalcore for sure but yes you are correct in that I can't stand generic drivel like this anymore at all.
|

It takes a lot for modern core to impress me
Also:I may be mildly addicted to doom

I agree with Hawks on Mausoleum. I thought it was a pretty bad track for Darkest Hour.

Mausoleum is a complete embarrassment 0/10 song. I also second everything Hawks said about this going into generic scenecore territory.

Wouldn’t call it scene-core by any means but industry-core absolutely. Feels like there was a producer or label head with way too much input

Same producer as S/T so they're clearly giving that guy too much input

I thought the S/T was underrated

@xing: that's your opinion and i respect your right to have it, but it feels so predictable that the song that has a lot of acoustic guitar and singing (and the heavy parts feel earned as a crescendo + that guitar solo towards the end rules) gets maligned in this genre. makes me think fans of this brand of -core don't actually want stylistic variety on the albums. they just want something to bang their head to and them to go heavier...
which makes me wonder why Extinction(s) got the amount of flak it did because that's exactly what Unearth did.

I mean I don't think the demand for more intensity is where things stand, hell imo one of the best DT songs is A Paradox With Flies and it's not distinctly heavy (albeit there are no acoustic passages) it's just I think habitually bands that do that often don't have the best grasp on how to actually properly incorporate a more pleasant acoustic-driven track. I love this album (albeit Mausoleum sorta passes me by) and I think it's more than understandable that people don't dig it.

variety is cool and great and tbh preferred but also not good sometimes and sheer backlash against one song like that doesnt mean theyre entirely unwanted, which is the inverse of that argument kinda. mausoleum's faults don't reflect every song in this style that goes for that vibe. just didnt work here

yeah variety for the sake of variety is a questionable writing decision

Production isn't so hot on this one

I mean that's more reasonable but "0/10 embarrassment" just makes me wonder what could've made that approach work for them tbh. Maybe it was a miss to some, but i heard absolutely nothing there that could compare to what i see as a true 0/10 embarrassment.

No way it's 0/10 by any objective measurement. I think the repeated "mausoleum" chants are atypical for DH and I can understand why they'd be unappealing to some listeners, but other than that it's just some decent singing over acoustic guitar, and a crescendo into a heavy part which should be unoffensive to anyone who likes DH lol. I think it's a good song but am not blown away the way some people are by that track.

yeah honestly it's probably hardcoded in my brain to perk up at songs like that with crescendos into heavy parts on albums like this.
