Think this stood the test of time for me. Spun today after not listening since like February, and it sounds better than ever. Look Ma is still one of their funnest jams.

I reordered it to be more of an American Idiot 2 themetically. Shorter, sweeter, and more to the point:
1. The American Dream is Killing Me
2. Dilemma
3. Look Ma, No Brains!
4. 1981
5. Strange Days Are Here to Stay
6. Suzie Chapstick
7. Living in the '20s
8. Goodnight Adeline
9. Saviors
10. Father to a Son
Bonus Tracks: Bobby Sox, Coma City, Fancy Sauce
Love the ones I left off, but they feel like misfits here lyrically and just throw off my immersion. Great as one-off individual listens, though.

coma city is my favorite green day song since letterbomb :o
i actually love the flow of this tbh. the whole run from dilemma through suzie is really well paced. tbh i prefer it a good bit to american idiot but its also just more in line with the stuff i currently get out of this band

I can't stand Corvette Summer or One Eyed Bastard. They're the only two I'd cut outright, the rest I could work in somewhere.
I think because I didn't really get into Green Day until AI, I subconsciously gravitate towards anything vaguely political of theirs.

ai was my favorite album ever when i was 13 years old but that also means it will never sound even a fraction as good to me as it did back then so even though i still dig it it hit its ceiling so early for me. that and i dont really find their stadium u2-isms that palatable to me anymore (not a knock against u2 theyre one of the greatest bands of all time but they just kinda missed the point as to what made that band work). wish i could bottle up and inject the feeling that album used to give me tho, and letterbomb and jos are still top 10 gd
my ranking is weird tho. as time has gone on ive found myself most drawn to the insomniac -> nimrod -> warning run lol, and think each of those albums got a little better

AI was a landmark release for me too, but it's retained its magic at least to some extent. I like the run of albums you mentioned, but they pale in comparison to the sheer grandiosity of AI. I don't think most people who weren't alive/old enough at the time understand just how much of a cultural zeitgesit that record was.
Anyhow, that's why I seek out the more AI-sounding tracks from their music. I don't think I'd even be a Green Day fan if their discography existed sans American Idiot. Not because their other music isn't good, just simply because I never would have had that big emotional connection where everything clicked. They'd probably just be another punk act from the 90s that I respect and listen to occasionally.

guess im glad i dont feel the same way lol. nimrod and warning are two of the most enduring albums from that movement for me. would never take away from the impact of ai but impact aint everything

I mean that in a personal sense too. I'm not just drawn to it because of its relevance; it was probably the first non classic rock / old person album (from my parents) that I connected to on my own, haha. Huge album in the sense that it formed so much of my early taste in music. Without AI I probably wouldn't have gotten into Yellowcard or pop-punk.

Well I've been overruled then, haha.
Best songs here IMO are Dilemma and Look Ma. Both songs feel like they could have worked their way onto American Idiot without sounding too out of place.
