Viva Emptiness' relative dumbness compared to other Katatonia albums is marginal on its own terms, let alone compared to Withering vs. DSS/Arche

"we do not stan mall doom itt"
Speak for yourself

sleep token are the natural heirs to the genre it's incredible how neatly katatonia had the path laid out for them

Tbh what even is mallcore

"Tbh what even is mallcore"
It's an elitist term used to describe "poser" metal genres like nu-metal and groove metal
Just look up Sepultura's Roots on Metal Archives, and you'll see the term thrown around like nobody's business
|
| |
metalcore as invented by atreyu for early 00s commercial boom
nu-metal can be largely included in mallcore if the choruses are pop, groove metal defs predates it and, if not, has a distinct sound courtesy of thrash
unless someone wants to argue that Lamb of God are mallcore gawd we could be here all day
|
| |
“ elitist”
*patrician
|
| |
Lamb of god is probably mallcore
|
| |
I don’t think we need to seek too much nuance here, if it’s metal that can be found in hot topic or can be safely attributed the “alt” descriptor in any capacity it’s pretty much mallcore

"or can be safely attributed the “alt” descriptor in any capacity"
I don't necessarily agree with that part. After all, I wouldn't consider first-wave alt metal bands like Helmet or Jane's Addiction to be mallcore in any way

I’d rather be a plebeian than a patrician
Less rules, more freedom
Also idk Potsy that’d make Primus mallcore and the idea of that makes me kinda mad

Alt metal is more listenable than like 80% of “trve metal” honestly but hey
|
| |
What the fuck did I just say about nuance Kris
|
| |
Primus is mallcore
|
| |
Metallica and iron maiden etc can be found at hot topic so they are now the original mallcore
