Yeah an album where Matt, arguably the most talented dude here, takes the reigns sounds interesting

Mr. God honestly slaps
I'm willing to give the new album a fair shake

I’ll be the first to point out talent does not equal songwriting, especially when/if it comes to someone writing on their non primary instrument. However, I will keep an open mind

Both singles have been snoozers so the bar is already set pretty low.

I don't think it's implied that he's writing all the songs, simply steering them in a certain direction. He's been doing that with Spencer's vocals for years, since P2 if I'm not mistaken.

finally gave this one a few listens. really disappointing after p4! this one is really awkwardly mashed together, transitions just aren't as sharp. and it's so bloated. way too many sugary pop melodies and subdued instrumentation. the hooks on here for the most part suck! hate the gang vocals especially on wildfire which is a cool song otherwise. really dig wax wings the most, feels like the most p4 song here. silhouette is awful and dying star isn't much better. dracul feels like a lesser reptile and the closer is so unnecessarily long.
idk feels like the pop elements here are just clashing so much for me in a way they didn't on p4. before they were nicely integrated or separated. really detracts from the heavy parts like everything is fine and zagreus. the overly theatrical parts suck as well lol. definitely feels like a spencer album. kind of a mess but somewhat entertaining still. very excited to see how the new one compares.

The feedback on the new album ive heard so far is super mixed. The aussies aren’t loving it. Apparently it’s actually not all that heavy and few standout tracks. Going in with very tempered expectations tomorrow

it's so bad man lol. and i actually like crush a bit so it's not pop=bad. it's a complete dud and dreadfully boring. the poppy vocal melodies throughout are really irritating. everything here feels so slapped together and held by duck tape. surprising this comes after p4 which i really like a lot.

I actually like Silhouette, reminded me of Spencer’s side project Nik Mystery and Bowen’s electronics from P1/P2 era. Didn’t care for Crush at all for some reason

ah yeah forgot that existed, maybe i should check it out. its only smiles is easily their best pop song. i'd take an album full of that!

first impressions i didnt hate the new one, but it did make me miss some of their longer more multi-phase numbers. the over production on spencers vocals at times is a bit much and the will ramos track is basically them doing their best deathcore impression. i am enjoying heaven on high and there are some moments that do hard pretty hard elsewhere. it wouldnt be a periphery record if it was polarising af

like 2/3s through the album and wowwwww its a big departure. real "teacher becomes the student" moment
i hear more sleep token, spiritbox, erra, deftones, lorna shore etc than i do periphery themselves lmao. like they looked around and saw who has been popping off the last few years and decided its time to ride the wave
no fucking idea what spencer is doing with his cleans
