The only songs I revisit off TCBTS are Island, Young Love, Atlas, and You've Got Spirit Kid.
Audience feels like a song they felt like they needed to make rather than one they wanted to. It's probably their worst "prog" category song, honestly.
This definitely has more heart than it. The band sounds energized and the lyrics here actually have a nice spread. The last three do a lot of the heavy lifting in the lyrical department, but also songs like Blood and Comatose and even Bad Man have so much energy and emotion put into them. It's a baffling comparison, honestly. Eraser is one of the better songs from Color and Claudio literally sounds half-asleep lol

weirdly, tuna, when I heard the singles I thought this would be really boring

That's fair proyect. I was meh on them until seeing Coheed live in March and the singles slapped. They're still one of my all-time favorite live bands. After the concert I couldn't wait for this album, but at this moment it's a bit underwhelming for me. Guess I'll just have to catch their next tour to appreciate this more fully.

Peace to the Mountain an underrated jam tbh
I'd take that whole album over The Hard Sell in a heartbeat tho lol

Coheed are fantastic live, but after having seen them four times over the years I don't really have too much a desire to ever see them again. The energy is great and everything, but they really don't change their set that much to compel me to go. There aren't too many surprises, it's always just the songs you'd expect, the newest album's singles, maybe a deeper cut from from one of the first few albums. Before looking at setlist.fm for their most recent shows, I could've predicted most of the setlist. It is surprising to see not a single Descension song and The End Complete III, I suppose. Next time they do a Neverender I'd definitely be game tho

"they really don't change their set that much to compel me to go"
This and the fact that they co-headlined with two vastly inferior live bands in TBS and The Used the last two times I saw them was a bummer. Short sets with the exact songs you'd expect. Claudio sounds incredible live though and it's always fun but damn it'd be cool to hear some deep cuts again.
The Neverender tours are their best because at least you know you get to hear everything. The End Complete III live was awesome last time I caught them but I've never heard Domino live and dammit that's not fair.

I want them to just play this album in full, as is tbh. I could live without hearing welcome home and IKS live for the 234573ed time

Replace IKS with 21:13 or The Crowing [2]

I saw them on that TBS tour. Was it a co-headline?
I honestly felt so bad for TBS. I thought they played well and with a lot of energy but the crowd basically stood still through all of their newer material from the last three records, all of which I have really enjoyed, and only perked up during their big, older hits

Yeah it was. Both bands got an hour - same with the tour with The Used. I don't care for any post-New Again TBS save for a couple songs so I'm one of the people just standing there. Lol. But I saw them in Baltimore and the outdoor venue there sucks ass. The pit is completely separate from the rest of the seating and the tickets are 3 times as much to be in the pit so most people are pretty far from the stage. So I'm right up against the barrier with probably 100 other people and there's just no energy compared to the way it would be for the indoor venues like The Fillmore.

Peace to the Mountain an underrated jam tbh [2]
Yeah that came on shuffle for me recently, and I think I usually am just ready to move on something else by the time it comes on, but I definitely enjoy that one.
This album blows TCBTS out of the water though.

Yeah, glad I saw them on the Ascension tour circuit; but +100 wish they'd play more deep cuts too. Saw them in concert 5 times including the IKS and GA1 Neverenders so I think I got the most out of their live shows.
As much as I like some of the songs from this (and a few from Vaxis 1), I'm just not interested in hearing them live

I've always preferred when bands - even those deep into successful discographies - focus their setlist on their most recent output. In my view, that's typically why folks are choosing to see them when they are, because they are a fan of the recent material; otherwise, they'd catch the next cycle's tour instead. I realize with more casual listeners this certainly isn't the case, and I'd definitely still see my favorite artists regardless, but I definitely like it better when they play new LPs as close to in-full as possible.

Definitely agree with that sowing. Coheed is worse about this than most bands in my experience

Just realized the only time I have seen coheed outside of at a fest was in 2016 which means they played 7 songs off their stinky album

I don't understand the disdain for IKS and Welcome Home. If you're going to so many Coheed concerts that you get bored of their most popular and well-known songs, then that's a you problem - not everyone has seen the band 15+ or 20+ times

There's nothing wrong with those songs individually, but the issue is that the longevity of their career means they have like 15 songs that could be staples and these take up most of any given setlist. This is fine if a band is a legacy act, but they are still putting out records and those records don't receive a ton of love. Like I said, they are an amazing live act but I just don't have any interest in seeing them again unless it's for something like a Neverender

Totally agree with you, Odal! If Coheed is putting out albums that don't receive a ton of love and have had a long career with as many 'staple songs' as they have, wouldn't they be close to being (or already be) considered a legacy act, though?
