It's all preference but I would have loved to hear Caleb going off in some of these. Nate just doesn't have the same power, he does what he can though.
I don't think they were really going for the spacey vibe on this one, it sounds very "grounded" like they're trying to do something a bit different. Some successes and some mishits but there's nothing on here I would call bad.

Yeah, I guess nostalgia is a pretty big factor in me enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would on paper.
I mean, the whole grunge thing happened when I was in my late teens, I was 16/17 when Dirt and Badmotorfinger came out so it was almost inevitable for it to be my soundtrack for those years. Then I spent decades avoiding anything that had even a whiff of grunge about it, that´s how saturated I became of it all.
And now here we are, with the Greg Puciato solo stuff and this album (both coming from post-hardcore musicians) finally seeming to catch up on what was good about grunge. Which in retrospect wasn´t all that much, but the 70s metal mixed with punk was alluring to me. And they´re making it a bit more muscular, larger sounding and agressive and I gotta say, I´m loving it.

I notice the grunge part, i have no hatred apart from in poor sound/production.
but lets make one point clear: stephen brodsky is not eddie vedder
and he tries to. and it sounds like shit

The cover looks more like Saturn crashing into an ocean to me. It's just a cool cover as well.

Mostly agree with Stigma. This is unfortunately one of my least favorite Cave In releases despite having some good songs

yeah when I was saying "trying too hard", I was more specifically referring to "Searchers of Hell" which I will definitively declare to have the worst Cave In riff of all time.
Seriously.
What the actual fuck is that riff.

im sorry lmao for the name, id change it if i could.
Before i got my adhd diagnosis i was a hyperactive brat and thought that "Stigmatized" by Biohazard was the greatest fucking epic song ever (as much as i love them they have fallen off so hard after mata leao) so yaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAA
"Taken by surprise, stigmatized by the things I've seen with my own eyes
Traumatized until I realize that I gotta go on with my life"
is bars indeed. if you're wondering why im giving you a explaination its because im now extremely self aware of poor life decisions
