That and Bites On My Neck are so good

Aight just finished. This jogged my memory of my problems with the last album that persist with this one. My issue is there is an aesthetic incongruity between how she presents herself and her music and how it actually sounds. Her image, the album art and album title for this, and the intro track all kind set an expectation that isn’t really fulfilled until Too Dead Inside, and even then for the most part it is minor. Up until then this is a bit of an inert slog, and it certainly isn’t very “glitch” anything. It’s just kind of basic… I mean one song sounds like Kailee Morgue….
There are some winners from Too Dead Inside on but a few bleeps and bloops does not a cyberpunk internet fever dream glitch princess make.
And that’s fine. She is under no obligation to present aesthetic and musical cohesion. But for me the aesthetic and conceptual components are quite intriguing so the fact that her music (mostly) doesn’t fulfil that expectation makes the disappointment that much more lofty.

What would you like her to do? Like go fully into glitch?
|
| |
It’s not that I “want” her to do anything it’s just there is an insinuation that they are going to be edgy glitch pop/hop or deconstructed club or something adjacent and those elements are virtually nowhere to be found aside from the occasional bloop
The Tl;dr is basically yeule is not what I expected them to be and what I expected them to be interests me more than what they are

That's fair, I mean her art definitely makes you think it'll be more edgy than it is

Right?

I think she's better at doing ambient pop stuff like on the Pathos EP, this never really grabbed me that much

am defs in favour of the abstracted glitch shit getting more emphasis in future, but
"That's fair, I mean her art definitely makes you think it'll be more edgy than it is"
i think the fact that she ain't gives this a far stronger centre of emotional gravity than the Arcas/Grimeses of the world who do commit to the edge and, ironically given pots' posts, gives this more in common with the "trad" glitch pop artists (who are far closer to ambient pop than the deconstructed jank the tag primarily gets used for on rym now)
can defs see the potential for disjuncture, but it's never really bothered me and i think having seen the way she maintains the image in live performance helps a fair bit

That’s fair, I haven’t seen any of her live stuff so I don’t have that influence on my perception.
BUT I will clarify that while the aesthetic of leaning into glitch pop and deconstructed club interests me more than what this is doesn’t necessarily mean I’d actually like it more. I hate a lot of that stuff. If it leaned too far into it I’d probably hate this too. But at least it’s interesting? Idk I feel like I’m on the hunt for a pop artist who marries those qualities and aesthetics with something palatable in perfect harmony and I’ve yet to find it, and I keep half expecting Yeule to be the one. If there was too much I’d have an entirely different set of criticisms, but in regards to this it’s not enough. Like I said in my initial thoughts, the first half or so of the album I found not only to be boring, but honestly to be flat out BASIC as far as ambient pop goes. The second half approximates what I’m looking to hear a lot better. Some good songs there. But still not quite. Also the intro is PERFECT. Made me think I was going to get exactly what I was lookin for

More importantly why have you not checked Doopee Time yet
or Capybara by Swing Slow
