it's not apolitical at all. it's generally used to enforce regressive ideas of masculinity that are directly tied to sexism and transphobia from the alt-right. that was a completely different context. pretty sure it’s modern usage was spurred mostly by Paul Joseph Watson (which says a lot), and the vast majority of its usages are from conservatives. it’s not something like pepe the frog which is a more general internet thing that got unfairly conflated with certain hateful groups. and the way “soy” is used is directly derogatory to trans people because it’s based on the (disproved) notion that soy products raise estrogen levels, and that being an inherently bad thing
