In among all the hype, I will say there's a little bit of compositional predictability that's stopping me giving it the 5. At his best, Brandon's a real tunesmith (the main reason he got by previously with questionable lyrics and a technically poorer voice), and the cliche, heard-it-all-before chords and melodies that make up songs like Quiet Town and The Getting By don't play to his strengths, or at least aren't really what I listen to a Killers record for. I know there's meant to be more of a focus on lyrics and atmosphere here, but it's not a blanket excuse for a lack of musical originality/hummability.

So I can't say it's my favourite album by the band, as some including Sowing are going all in on, but it's a great addition to their canon and leagues ahead of their Battle Born/Wonderful Wonderful nadir.

"I feel like any time a band grossly under delivers for like a decade and then puts out something pretty solid people are wont to praise it as some huge masterpiece. I've had some time to analyze the lyrics during my recent campimg trip and they're pretty good, but come on lol. This is fairly by-the-book for Americana, and there are definitely some boring ass songs here. Just wait a few months/years from now and I'll bet anything that the majority of people lauding this as a landmark record (after a meager few days of digesting it) will realize they jumped the gun. I highly doubt this has the longevity of their first two albums - it certainly doesn't have the fun factor. I will say though, it's far from a bad album. I'm adding a couple of songs from this to my 2021 playlist, I just can't help but question the hype it's getting, and think it's a bit one-tone"

Alright I'll bite - I think few itt are suggesting this is a masterpiece (and one is Sowing - no intro needed), but this is damn good and definitely has staying power. I don't see this ever dropping below a 4 for me. Its just an experience. I actually have 0 interest in listening to individual tracks and just want to go all in on the full thing start to finish. I mean right on if it isn't your cup, but this is one hell of a record

I haven’t heard this yet but from what I’ve read I just hope someone enjoying this will check out the upcoming James McMurtry album this Friday and revel in the skill of someone who’s been telling incredible Americana stories for several decades.

King shit

Flowers sounds career-best here vocally, hated the cowboy drawl stuff he started doing a few albums ago

he still sounds best to me on sam's town - that album has some godly vocal harmonies and weird little idiosyncracies. this is much more straight forward singing overall but it's still lovely stuff, no doubt. and as for cody, idk, it just gets stuck in my head, super catchy song. i can see it not being someone's top 5 tho. as long as we're all in agreement that horses is definitely bottom 3, if not the worst song

I mean solid top 5 aside from Cody, but no way I can get behind a "who cares" towards In Another Life, In The Car Outside, and The Getting By.

@neekafat I think Terrible Thing will grow on you

In fact all these songs should be listened to with the lyrics pulled up, at least one time
