1) I listened to this on my run last night and record gets better and catchier every time. This definitely is going to land at a very solid 4.
2) You're all right. Where The Lightning Strikes Twice is definitely a bad Killers song. A really bad Killers song. Killers B-side song. One of the Killers B-sides that they don't even use as filler in their albums. Like an actual B-side. Jesus Christ, Conor even sounds like Brandon Flowers. Do you know what I would do to myself if I ever sounded like Brandon Flowers? Yeah, I better not think about it, bad headspace.

very accurate. this began as a light 3.5 for me and got better every time. even since I reviewed it on Friday I've already bumped it up again

How can we agree so closely on 9/10 songs but then be so far apart on Lightning

Some of the tracks in the middle would be like 50% better they could just cut out one extra chorus. 3 minute songs don’t need the chorus played 3-4 times, I’ll die on that hill. And those choruses are always the ones where it’s one line repeated 4 times

I'm very impressed with the general consensus across all of our ratings and tiers is nearly identical.

I can agree, but this record so brazenly wears that songwriting trope on its sleeve, it doesn't come off as lazy songwriting. It's very evidently meant to be part of the identity that makes the record the experience that it is.

^this
It wasn't accidental, they set out to make this a collection of unapologetic mainstream bangers

Lightning slow but steady climbing up the ranking

I want a full album of 737 / Speak with the Dead quality next ... they are by far the 2 strongest songs and they also happen to be the absolute black sheep of this pop album

That's what I was saying earlier itt, would love for them to make their own Daisy. Conor has the voice for it and every time Foxing leans into the screams/gnarled electric guitars it always ends up being a career highlight.

100% agreed. Maybe in a couple years! In the mean time ... I would highly suggest Microwave's Death is a Warm Blanket for those who loved 737 and Daisy fans. That album brings that type of energy the whole way through.

And I’m cool with unapologetic mainstream bangers, but I still think they could have done some of them a little more tastefully
