Didn't expect the hateboner for this here, is it because rym likes it?

This is a bad album for background listening - headphones now, is good

If you hate the vocals just be pleased they aren’t Mars Volta style, just imagine that

‘battles are a math rock band‘

Yes. Why tho?

These guys are pretty mundane, rhythmically speaking. Battles have those chops for days.

Biggest critique is Hogwash is a little too Bungle for me

Listen to a random sample of ‘Mirrored’ and a ‘non slow song’ section of this - not too dissimilar, something tonally in there too

‘Discipline’ is the most obvious album comparison though, to the point I expect Adrian Belew’s voice to come in

That’s probably why it’s the best track here. Other bands doing Bungle things are often my preferred Bungles.

Yeah it’s really hard to like this when Discipline exists, agreed.

More albums need an eccentric twink to show up and scream gibberish over the music

Think you’re stretching a little bit ok, ‘Discipline’ is hardly perfect and this is pretty decent

Album had a good list of influences - as did the debut, and now they’re different ones

Discipline is the wrong comparison, it sounds more in line with Larks’ Tounges in Aspic. There were definitely moments where one of the singers was trying to do a John Wetton impression

Just wait for fantano giving this a 10.

Also I agree with Ascending Forth being one of the weakiest songs here, I expected better for a closing track, but I don't hate it.

You know I get hating on the hype Black Country New Roads or Squid gets, but c’mon this way more deserving of the hype than either of those two bands.

RYM are wrong about a lot but they’re right about this

Yeah I don't really get the hype with those other bands tbh, for me they are between meh/ok/don't really care

Don't really get the KC comparisons tbh when it has more in line with Henry Cow/Univers Zero
