Early Gojira doesn't sound like Mastodon, nope. No way in hell considering Gojira are mostly a progressive metal band with death metal leanings. Mastodon are prog/sludge. HOWEVER, some of the more accessible songs for the mainstream audience they're obviously trying to cater to from this album and Magma most certainly come off that way. Also, you can' tell me The Chant doesn't sound like something Mastodon would write. Especially some of the solos that are reminiscent of Brent Hinds style. Feels like Crack The Skye era Mastodon worship.
I kinda wish Gojira would incorporate more of the heavier riffage that they're so well known for but if they're headed more towards a prog/sludge direction then I guess we'll just have to accept it.

Grind > Liberation (what is even this song... Liberation, haha, Magma definitely sort of stumbles at the end I will say)

comparing first 4 songs on each album, since I've seen people say "yeah this is already way better than Magma" 4 songs in, which I disagree with, I have concluded that Magma has a stronger first half, and Fortitude has a stronger second half, but just my opinion
