The new one is head-and-shoulders above this, Forget and Fabulous Muscles (i.e. the three albums of theirs I had previously associated with the more 'immediate' side of their sound)
comparing it to Forget Grief seems like a futile endeavour (and that one had its moments) but Xiu Xiu are back and more convincing than they've been in a long, long time
Hotly anticipating Dad's(?) review (*fingers crossed*)

mid take, the answer is likely ‘neither’ tbh, even if the new one peaked higher and I do rate it (ugh last year was so comprehensively underwhelming).

'peaks' are about even between the two, but the emotional bedrock runs deeper on this one. disarmingly beautiful record

a lot of the collabs just didn’t really work from a cohesion point of view and I tried plenty. Some engaging moments, but a mismatched hodgepodge of a tracklisting. I will maybe try again(?)
