You’re Welcome is charming as it gets while dancing right on top of themes of the evil love of money, fake friends in it for the wrong reasons, and of course, missing the good old days
of course

I think the main reason I rated this higher than their last few albums is that despite being even more generic, it doesn't give me the same level of painful boredom. Maybe something to do with them completely embracing the happy generic vibe and it coming off better as a result.

Honestly that's fair but I'd rather have them phoning in a consistently heavy record for once (Bad Vibrations) instead of phoning in a slice of this

^I agree. ADTR are the typical gateway band for people who don't enjoy metal and rock music in general but also, as much as a mainstream band, they catered to people drawn to the alternative. Now they try to revert that and fail miserably.

I used the term "fuck you money" with my wife when this released and she loved it so I guess I have this album to thank

try using 'a day to remember - you're welcome [2021]' as a safe word, it works really well

The idea of making a song about fuck you money is so absurd it's like they're telling the listener they have so much fuck you money they can make whatever bullshit song they want and put it on an album and make you listen to it.

Mindreader is one of my favorite ADTR songs since Homesick. It's those few really good songs on this album that save it from some of the mediocrity.
I skimmed their last three albums again and confirmed my belief that the band completely changed their approach with this album. For awhile their music felt dragging to me save a few good songs but I totally get a lot of people loved those albums.
This album feels like the band broke through something, and that in and of itself is enough to get me excited.
