Love Wilson's voyage 34 lockdown video

The new version of Voyage 34 is tops. I'd love a return to extended psych rock jamming, especially now with his advanced knowledge of production, electronic music, and songwriting experience under his belt, but not synthpop, real prog/psych rock.
That Voyage 34 vid and Detonation from To the Bone show Wilson hasn't lost a step with that kind of music. Even if he's gonna stick with this new mainstream direction in his solo career, he could easily do it with a new side project if he wanted.

bizarre lack of 1.5s in the rating distribution so may as well chuck one in there.
forgot how infuriatingly bad Personal Shopper was since I haven't heard it since it came out 5 years ago

Hey Toro good to see you back! I've been doing well, getting back into Wilson's older solo music and playing lots of 2000s Porcupine Tree on bass.
I couldn't decide between a rating of 2, 2.5, or 3-3.3 at various listens of this album, so I settled on 2.8 haha

Russia on ice is such a fun bass jam, checking the facebook market place every other day to see if someone's put up a cheap fretless

Apparently the 10,000 pounds of the ridiculous boxset will go to a charity to support music venues? That makes it at least a little better tbh

Decent background music for doing dishes but nothing ever caught my attention.
Also I feel like Steven Wilson thinks he's smarter than he is.. Singing about "consumerism is bad and i hate shopping malls" is some class A pseudo-intellectual take on our society. Also really hypocritical in his case. Making money isn't evil, end of story. It's what you do with the money and what kind of impact you're having. I'm just personally sick of his boomer lyrics that have been talked about in philosophy for the last 400 years.
Musically, the sound of the album has been done better many years ago. Uninspiring melodies and use of vocals. It's like average electronica that's been made "more abstract" only for the sake of being "more abstract", but in reality it is a false layer that adds nothing to the bland music.

Incredibly inoffensive pop music if you don't concentrate too much, agreed
now what I look in music

I wonder how bad this actually is and how much he just angered the "based" crowd. With all the facebook marketing I've seen it kinda makes me not wanna find out tho

Yeah, I've loved most of Stevie's pop impulses in the past, but it just bad on here. The spacier quiet tracks are nice, though
12 Things I Forgot/Man of the People/Count of Unease would make a dandy little EP, shame the rest gotta be here

this is like the opposite of To the Bone for me. I was not immediately drawn in by the textures and sounds on TtB but the album won me over with some great moments. TFB has a sound that gets me excited right away but then nothing exciting happens and I end up disappointed.
and I'm a sucker for pop steven wilson
