for me it's the dopamine release I get from online shopping, then hitting order, then anticipation and having it arrive, then displaying it, then whenever i gaze at my collection.
It sounds extremely pathetic when I write it, I guess it is.
Whatever, I have friends who spend 50 dollars a week on cigarettes and alcohol.
At least this is an expression of something that's a big part of my life.

I used to feel that way about band merch tbh. If it truly adds value to your life then go for it. A lot of people waste money on literal instruments of self-destruction (drugs, alcohol, gambling, etc.) so it's good to take judgement with a grain of salt.

A guy I know once calculated how much his cocaine habit cost him over the years. Turned out it he could've bought a brand new BMW 320d if he would've said no to the blow. Reminded me there's definitely worse things to spend your money on than music lol

One night's worth of coke in my city would cost about 150 USD so it's really not viable unless you're earning shitloads, or you're offered it...which is rare.
I do look at my vinyls and books and stuff as being partly a tribute to my impulsive buying and lack of self restraint though... at least I'm not looking at a jail cell or kids etc though. We should probably be kinder to ourselves
