the reception of this record basically suffers a lot from the ungodly expectations people had prior to release. Gotta admit that I did not replay it as much as I thought I would but that is going to change. While not nearly as fleshed out as prior releases this is still better metalcore than 99% of the genre nowadays

The defining issue with this album for me is that it's largely backloaded. Takes time for it to get really good. The front half is decent but once Old Ghosts hits, its a new game.

Sad this wasn't all it could have been, but I'm grateful for what we got.

Still jamming The Tempest, Old Ghosts, and Cascade Locks in my daily rotation

This ended up being pretty great. Maybe a little below MS standards but still rips. I think just one more song would have done the trick. Hope they aren't done.

Don't listen to anything on here other than Cascade Locks and Some Dreams. Both of those songs are Malice good.

This record dropped off pretty bad if I'm honest. I enjoyed Old Ghosts & River King, but AL was superior in tone, production and diversity. MS totally could have built on the indie rock sensibilities in the last quarter.

I don't think the "brighter" tone suits them.

after a 7 year absence and member change, the comeback album is rewarding with some very fine guitar driven metalcore with both fury and melody

Two more songs and one more Karl and it could have been excellent.
