hmm dunno if I’d describe a Morton Feldman exercise in indeterminacy as a “banger” but to each their own

Honestly false Johnny this all feels rather contrived or like ur just ad libbing to illustrate an ultimately arbitrary point. The lyrics and presentation of this album feel deep and admirably reflective to me, unlike some of these comments which seem more interested in measuring dicks or something

"just ad libbing to illustrate an ultimately arbitrary point"

well, given that most my last comment was my best response to your ultimately arbitrary question about the distinction between "deep" and "profound", i'm hardly going to disagree there.

"lyrics and presentation of this album feel deep and admirably reflective to me"

never called the latter into question; my original comment was primarily directed at the histrionics certain people were making about certain self-explanatory parts of the album's formalism, and if you find deep levels of significance in phil's memory acts, then good for you - please share

next time i respond to your off-hand comments, promise i'll keep it to one-liners. also half my point (and, coincidentally, the gist of the lyrics) was the impracticality of trying to define what counts as deep to begin with, so i'm not sure what prompted you to get the strawmen out of the toy box

Maybe its rather that i find depth in the admissions of insignificance?

can you clarify what you consider specifically d e e p about them and then maybe this thread can go back to people quibbling over how much attention they pay to album titles and which of the album's two chords is their favourite

I'm at my comp now so I'll try and excersize a little less flippant brevity

well, given that most my last comment was my best response to your ultimately arbitrary question about the distinction between "deep" and "profound", i'm hardly going to disagree there.

I didn't really ask that. I asked what your measure for depth was, and observed that it sounded to me like you might conflate the two, but that difference wasn't my question. Also the question was definitively not arbitrary given the context. But the assertation that this is not deep does seem arbitrary to me. And I appreciate your answer even if I didn't find it very illuminating! Just given your strong feelings regarding what does and most certainly doesn't constitute depth I would have figured you might have had it thought out a bit more than ad libbing.

never called the latter into question; my original comment was primarily directed at the histrionics certain people were making about certain self-explanatory parts of the album's formalism, and if you find deep levels of significance in phil's memory acts, then good for you - please share

well if your intent was to cleverly divulge in your own histrionics to illustrate some d e e p irony then hats off to you good sir

"Just given your strong feelings regarding what does and most certainly doesn't constitute depth"

the part i have strong feelings over whether is this album demands to be approached as something 'deep' in the sense of a grand, far-reaching statement, rather than as a first and foremost personal and testimonial affair that doesn't need to be overintellectualised. also, a little pedantic, but i never claimed the album was not deep (or the opposite of deep - not something i would accuse it of!), just that it was not that deep (ie its content isn't dependent on being approached as supremely meaningful or artistically intricate, as some people seemed to imply while quibbling in detail over small fry points such as the title). hope that clarifies where i'm coming from

"well if your intent was to cleverly divulge in your own histrionics to illustrate some deep irony then hats off to you good sir"

rest assured my hatrack is in a far better state than it needs to be rn
