yeah from what ive read his dad was deep into the jazz/fusion scene and he convinced him to start a death metal band as a side project that eventually turned into DS. which certainly makes sense considering his drum style.

I'd at least check it out. Brutal dm appears to me to be more of an acquired taste than regular dm/tech death/death doom etc. I tried to get into these guys multiple times but it really wasn't until this release that they clicked with me. I like a good amount of bdm now, still relatively new to the genre too. Took 7/8 years to get to this point personally. But that was just me. It also could have had to do with me unfairly thinking the genre was a joke for the majority of that time, idk for sure.
But short answer: it may not be ur thing but it's worth a shot, these guys are technical geniuses imo.
