i usually only listen to paysage in the winter during a snowstorm should i wait all year to listen to this guys ? or should i make an exception since it was obviously an intentional decision to release during summer months

Oh hey didn't expect you to actually take the issues with the "new standard" into consideration but I'm glad you did! Gold standard works much better I think

Lol Pots, I appreciate your persistence with something that strikes you as a 1, most people wouldn't give it a second thought, never mind a third.

Season doesn't matter to me much, some others seem to make a big deal out of it but if an album's atmosphere is good enough, it does all the work for you.

I just really like the idea of it, I want to like it. I went into it thinking I would.

Snox's comments about it being good smooth background ambience makes me feel like I didn't optimize my setting. The tinnitus it caused me didnt feel very smooth or relaxing to say the least. Maybe I just need to listen to it way quieter lmao

All I know is my "Mid" setting in my car is usually at +4 cause it makes the guitars in most metal sound nice and meaty but I had to turn it down to -2 to even hear them in this.

He definitely has a really specific sound he's going for and it does seems a bit silly to have to mess with an EQ that much for it not to sound like a tin can at the bottom of the mariana trench. But my good headphones don't seem to have an issue with it, sounds great on them. Still, it heavily favors the mids and highs no matter what you do, which would've been a huge turn off for me just a few years ago. Maybe I'm just going deaf lol

I don’t Understand the hype here. Guitar sound is really bad. And song writing is very unoriginal I think. But to each their own

I love how "Le Reve Luicide" is french because there is no good term for "Lucid dream" in german.

"guitar sound is really bad"

this is ambient music. don't think of it as guitar.

no offence to either you or snox but tbh the idea that black metal and ambient become mutually exclusive at some arbitrary production value point seems a bit like elitist nonsense to me. there is no other style where ambience can't coexist with another genre. in cases like this 'ambient' is a supplementary descriptor, but it is not an illuminating primary tag. just because this isn't pvre doesn't mean this this is just ambient music. having to do mental gymnastics to rationalize aesthetic choices like that and pretending the guitar isn't a guitar makes no sense. i often see the metal community trying to distance any examples of creative liberty from the genres proper as if having other attributes dilutes the authenticity of the music or something. it's like claiming something like boards of canada, as an accessible example, is just ambient just because it's not conventional idm. all it really does is make both the idea of what the album is going to sound like and the term 'ambient' itself more vague. and maybe boost the ego of the person making the claim by helping them feel like a proper arbiter/gatekeeper of stylistic boundaries.

cheers! I'd like to think I've always been pretty receptive to feedback :] was hard not to throw a hyperbolic summary out there when this hit me harder than anything in the genre the past several years

So my taste is generally nonsense :[ "Crispy" production is what makes me instantly like stuff like these.
