"imo this album is emblematic of the sorta thing Chan is getting at. production/sound being more the focus than songwriting. some of these songs would be easily ignored if penned by a less relevant musician with less stylistic finesse. they do sound, at their core, like ok songs elevated in the studio
tbf there’s a couple songs here I like and will return to"
Really well-put. They don't have that extra something that separates someone like Bridgers from the scores of competent coffee-house singer-songwriters out there.

closing section of the closer is awesome tbh
It felt lacking some major tunes like Georgia, Smoke Signals or You missed my heart.

'emblematic' the second polysyllable to get Sput cancelled in the last few days after 'unambiguous' damn, who's been handing out fliers for the ludd gang?
|
| |
i tried to get bombastic cancelled but to no avail, people still on here calling post-rock ‘bombastic’

anyone else feeling Halloween as a sleeper track? It's crept up on me, gone from one of my least favourites to one of my most
|
| |
all dynamics are bombastic all trebles are crystalline all reverb is atmospheric it's amazing how much instrumental music can speak to our hearts and sunset screensavers even though it has the frequent tendency to not include words thank you for coming to my tedx
|
| |
I like dusty trebles and opaque reverb.
|
| |
i like it when post-rock remembers we used to be friends and pours me a damn beer for a change

emblematic is a perfect word. it sounds good, and it functions well in a sentence.
e.g. neekafat is emblematic of how to become a contributor through attrition, but not writing talent : )

Idk how I feel about the album as a whole but Kyoto is one of the best songs I've heard all year

I've never listened to an album so many times that I feel so lukewarm about. I think I just refuse to believe that 'I Know The End' is on an album that is otherwise a 3/5. Might be trying to force myself to like this more than I should, but a few of these tracks I didn't like initially are starting to sound beautiful, so maybe it's worth it - I dunno.

"This Is the End" is pretty great (as others have said, the buildup is great but I'm not sure it quite sticks the landing), but "Graceland Too" is even better methinks.

Just bumped my rating up. I'm appreciating more and more things about most of the songs, and there's something gripping about this album that keeps me coming back to it.

yeah more and more of this album is tugging at my heartstrings and it's not just I Know the End even if that's definitely the best track
Kyoto/Punisher/Halloween is a heck of a run, as is ICU/Graceland Too/I Know the End
yeah this is a 4.5
