Giving something a 1.0, in my book generally implies you not only find it musically irredeemable, but also aesthetically, conceptually or philosophically reprehensible. If I don't enjoy a record sonically I'll usually give it a 2.5 or 2.0.

@GhandhiLion That they're giving it a low rating, because they haven't taken the time to appreciate/understand the band's aesthetic. Like it's a kneejerk reaction to something new and unfamiliar. Then again, it might also just be my bemusement at someone giving a 1 to something I would consider a masterpiece.

There are definitely albums I hate enough to slap a 1 on. A lot of smooth jazz, noise rock, metalcore, punk, and indie albums would fall into that category. Having said that I think it's generally good to avoid things you probably won't like. Morbid curiosity is a bitch tho.

@Ghandhi I mean, I might find something aesthetically unappealing if it's heavily commercialised (which is why I generally avoid pop music), but perhaps also if the outift is inadequately emulating an aesthetic of a past great, while already operating in a heavily saturated genre. It's also true that sometimes, I find music so terrible I just 1.5 or 1.0 it.
