I would assume people usually mean things like emotional or conceptual depth when they say "deep" re: music.

this is a band for stoners
get deep with the weed and find nothing profound

Intronaut reminds me of jazz in the sense that it’s virtuosic and playful. The emotional connection I get is awe at their playing ability/arrangements and fun out of their oddball charm. I’m not really sure how to reconcile that with the idea of being ‘deep’.

I’m jamming this band’s whole discog again for the first time in awhile, and I feel the quality had a big drop off after Valley of Smoke. Haven’t heard the newest one yet

If you didn't like Direction, you won't like this

Jammed this today again and I'm changing my mind about it. I enjoyed every second of it on this go. Bumping my rating again.

But then I do have a ridiculous soft spot for rhythmically driven prog so...

I dunno im not huge into Intronaut but at first glance this and Direction are better than their old shit

The negativity brigade in here is really weird. This album rules in exactly the way you'd expect if you like their last 3 albums. I'm definitely biased because this band just nails my musical G-spot (odd time signatures, noodly clean guitars, strong melodic presence, "proggy" song structures and compositions, cathartic aggressive moments). But still, even if you're not me, I feel like if you like prog metal you should like this.

The thread has been unduly negative but the average is still pretty respectable.

It's honestly a great record. I feel as if people are just cavilling about certain nooks and cranies that really do not ruin the entire record, whether it be the vocals or the less than immaculate bass presence. Even if those criticisms have some merit, it still doesn't justify ignoring the great drum work, amazingly crisp production and dynamic song writing found on this project.

| |
Yeah the diminished role of the bass on this is honestly the most disappointing thing for me, and I agree with the review that the production misses the mark at times. But yeah I think it's otherwise great.

The drum work is great, but it's a more direct prog metal approach than the groovier parts Walker brought in. Intronaut have some atypical songwriting formulas and influences for the prog metal/post metal stuff. This is why such small details count more.

Just because you personally like something doesnt invalidate luke-warm reception boys
The criticisms and the praise for this are both completely understandable from unique perspectives

Yeah people can express their opinions, there aren't any trolls in here. The average is still quite high.

Bands averages for LPs are pretty insanely consistent on here
