There are a lot of great moments in the music itself, though.

The music is great, but it sound so bad.
It's truly impressive.

Fellow melon also butchered the production.

I really want to like this more, hell I actually like the songs a lot, but I have absolutely no desire to traverse again through the brick-walled dimension.

If they released a live album of this and purple it would rule.

i could it see if you purposefully messed up the promos to annoy and confuse people akin to what Old Man Gloom did, but ruining the digital and vinyl versions foar teh loolz is kinda dumb.

I think they're under the impression that the loud, distorted production "works" for their music. they think it actually sounds good.

I’m sure someone like Kurt Ballou could’ve easily made this album sound amazing. I’d say they really fucked themselves over with this one but the shitty mix hasn’t stopped critics from fapping to this according to the scores listed on Wikipedia

really glad when I saw that.

lol like it needs to be said. unless you didn't want people having their ears hurt. in which case, you shouldn't brickwall the damn thing!

Oof bumping down, sadly the songwriting isn't quite consistent enough to make slogging through the dreadful mix worth it. Still pre good though, 4 or 5 songs here are right up there with their best. Pains me to say that, given how much I love this band and how influential they were on me during my formative years... :/

I've been thinking a 2.5 is fair, but then I consider slapping a 2 and then 5 it if they ever remaster this.

They really shot themselves in the foot with this one. At least we have some beautiful art to look at:

Yeah Kompys, I've read your comments over the past few weeks and I think we feel the same about this band (I was fanboying all over their discography a couple of years ago). Some of the songs on this record are great, I really want to love it more.

It's not too late to release a "not bricked version" fellas, let's do it.

Ngl, the album hasn’t been ruined for me by the production but it is pretty disappointing that a band with the resources to make a great-sounding album would choose what we got instead. Their sound really doesn’t benefit from from the brickwall style at all when they have so many little lead and synth parts all in the mix. I barely even noticed the vocal harmonies at first

its sad they went from one of the most creative sludge bands around to a slightly above average alt rock group.

The muddy production hiding awesome music is just a parallel of how our chaotic culture clouds the beauty of the natural world... I'm sure that's what they were trying to express with that decision.
