These guys were prob the best songwriters out of the Big 4, although you already stated that in your throwdown list Hans.

Both PJ and SG had their filler, and I'm a big fan of both bands.

UMOK has 3 fillers and I'm not a fan of the 3rd quarter in DotU.

And we know the issues with Vitalogy.

Down on the Upside has some really classic jams (Blow Up the Outside World, Burden in My Hand), some awesome forgotten ones (Zero Chance), and a rad rock out song (Ty Cobb), but is overflowing with filler.

it's not like self-titled (AiC) was a classic album though either

honestly it's a mood thing for me between Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. I'm at the point where I can't choose between them.

AiC is definitely the most consistent of the 4.

I like all of PJ's albums to some extent (not counting the newest one, which I haven't heard), but they never equalled the greatness of their first 2 albums. Plus, they became restrained for the most part after that.

SG's never made a terrible album, but KA was pretty inconsistent imo.

as much as I love DotU, that first half of that album is a 5/5 but the second half isn't that great.

I only enjoy Ten by PJ other than that I only like a handful of their singles after that.

but yes:

AiC is definitely the most consistent of the 4. [2]

The closest thing AiC ever came to a bad album is TDPDH and even that's above average. KA was pretty boring tbh.

Had to edit my previous comment. But yeah, 3 amazing bands definitely.

I'm planning on jamming some Blind Melon soon, also need to hear Tad.
