"i disagree with the review about dan's vocals"

The review, after listening to the album, really feels like someone who doesn't like the band or even the genre. Just altered state / Ashe. Verified with the first comment. The reviewer probably couldn't have gone into this semi-objectively.

This comes off as a bit aggressive, and I don't mean for it to. But I also don't know how to say it better.

He's reviewed plenty of djent albums (i.e. TesseracT, Periphery, Animals As Leaders) so I'd say he has the right to review this album and form his own opinion on why he doesn't like it just as much as you do.

how many albums he's reviewed has nothing to do with the impression I took, I suppose. Its a well-written review.

ppl are biased towards TT, cuz they arose from that whole djent movement and also pioneered it. it was new and trendy, and the (old) metal community hates (musical) change in general ... grief was already there before peeps even listened to the god damn music. hopeless battle

Let’s not judge the state of metal by a band well, well past their prime lol

I like plenty of djent, dating back to Chimp Spanner, really. But I freely admit my tastes have changed as I've aged, and I also feel that djent hasn't aged and evolved particularly well. I've actually seen Tesseract live during the One area when they were on a bill with Devin Townsend and Periphery and thoroughly enjoyed the show and was a big fan of both the band and Dan's style. I loved Ashe, obviously, and have found the past two albums with Dan's return to be lacking (while I enjoyed both Skyharbor albums pretty thoroughly).

For what it's worth, no one writes reviews objectively. That's why there's disparity on even some of the most popular albums of all time; why you can look back and find negative reviews for what are now considered objective classics. Rolling Stone heralded The Crusade for culling Heafy's screams, for cripes sake. So I'm alright with that. Bias feeds everything everyone does and sees and I'm quite aware that I have some bias leaning against the sound presented here.

Should that restrict me from reviewing from my point of view? I don't think so. Others (including yourself) obviously enjoy the album for some of the reasons I don't, and that's quite alright as well. (As always) I don't wish any band any ill will, particularly Tesseract, who I've wished continued success upon since I first heard their initial demo.

It's called St. Anger.

dude can review whatever he damn well wants regardless of whether he actively likes the genre or not. it's a ridiculous assertion to say otherwise. there's no such thing as objective writing because you cannot go into music without some element of emotive response. you may not like what he has to say and that's your right but your criticisms are unreasonable because his review would have been just as valid if it started with "i've never heard of djent before but this is what it sounded like to me".

it sounds to me like you're trying to find reasons to justify the fact you're just unhappy that someone doesn't like an album that you do.

Never said he couldn't review it. That said, I don't really feel like what I said was crossing any lines either. I can make an observation about what I read into as well. The album is clearly as divisive as the rest of their library, which tends to happen when you have different vocalists who both do their job incredibly well.

FWIW, I'm really not that big of a fan of djent, and don't consider myself a fan of the genre. Sikth fucking rules, Tesseract is far more atmospheric / prog than djent, Cloudkicker owns, and thats about it for me.

And there are shitty fans in every subgenre.

Man I really love this record but it's really hurt by it's shorter runtime. I used to throw on Altered State in the headphones and turn off the lights. I'd just get lost in the music.

i'm not going to begin to accept the rest of your post when your previous post's intention was clearly to question the reviewer's eligibility to critique the subject matter and you seem to be backing away from that now.

Don't be an ass Toon. You have your bands that you hype about and no one hangs up on you for it.

My Metallica comment was a joke. If you took it serious, shame on you.

I have always placed Pantera and Tool fans at the top of that list. It was an isolated incident, but the worst I've ever seen were a group of Thrash heads who were actively opposed to anything else.

It might just me judging the djent fanbase based on Periphery fanboys.
