"So TOCS with atmospheric keyboards and and mostly minor keys?"
the keyboards are more prominent and electronic than on Disambig, but it has a similarly dark and angry vibe throughout a lot of it.

"it's like the formula of TOCS with the vibe of Disambig"
Perfect way to describe it

this dude says it's underoaths best album but only rates it a 4. what a piece of shit

I'm so torn on this. It's weirder than I expected and the atmosphere/Chris and Aaron's drumming are absolutely phenomenal, but it's definitely a regression musically and Spencer is extremely inconsistent imo. It's like they achieved what they set out to do and it's waaaay more accomplished and ambitious than the typical radio fare but there's so many shortcomings so is it a success or not?
Tl;dr this could stay at a 3.5 or go to a 4 or down to a 2.5 idfk

Thus turned out wayyy better than I worried it would. Describing it as TOCS filtered through Ø is pretty on the money.

nuts that it's been 8 years since disambiguation

I don't see this sounding like TOCS in the slightest but that's just me I guess. It sounds a lot like a Hard Radio Rock version of LITSOS to me

ihateit is aptly titled

Ihateit is like the best example on here of what they were trying to accomplish with this release. I kind of hate that I don’t hate this album, but fuck if they didn’t pull this sound off exceptionally well. They certainly put similar efforts by bands like BMTH and Of Mice and Men to shame.
It might not be the album I was hoping for, but the fact that Sleepwave was a thing between Ø and now, it makes total sense that this is the direction they steered into. I still hope they return to the dirty, dissonant sludgy riffs of their last three albums, but this is a nice diversion.
That and it helps to know this certainly wasn’t a cash grab, the band pretty obviously wanted to make this album.

I’m so glad I didn’t fucking hate this. It’s my least fav of theirs for sure, but it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Chris’ synth work is rad.

Good, was hoping the synths would take a place up front this time around
|
| |
Seems like people actually think this is dece? Wtf?
|
| |
I’ve still only heard the singles Don’t have a way to download it on my phone so I’ve just gotta wait until Friday
|
| |
I haven't heard it either, but just a couple days ago it seemed like everyone was predisposed to hating this

Its a pretty disappointing album we're all just settling for it cus its new Underoath
|
| |
There's some merit to saying people are settling but I also think a lot of bitter fans are being really lazy when they say people are making excuses to like it. It's definitely disappointing in that it's not what I wanted but it's extremely accomplished for what they set out to do.

any time you see this number of people going "for what it is" and "for what they were going for" ya should already know it's crap. if it were enjoyable it wouldn't need qualifiers
