Sunrot is tonight it was some electronic project called Statiqbloom. After every song there would be a 5 sec pause and people would then be like “shit don’t want to be rude” and start intermittently clapping

I was originally suppose to be at last night's show...switched tickets last minute and went to today's instead. Might be too early to call, but I think I made a REALLY good decision by doing that. Saw yesterday's setlist, and for all intents and purposes, I'd say today's setlist was significantly different and longer.

Saw the same exact line-up last year on an east coast run. I can attest that it really was a good show. I think Amenra's set today was even better despite a very painful technical problem w/bassist Levy's pedal board power strip being faulty/glitching out to the point where the first song got extended during the sole guitar passage until the thing got fixed.
Out of curiosity, I asked Colin if they'd play A Solitary Reign today. They didn't. And when I asked if they'd ever consider playing it live ever again, he told me that for various reasons, he had a very hard time singing it live the one and only time it was played and that he was very unsure of himself when it came to that song.

That muthafucker doesnt believe in his own voice its crazy. Hes so self deprecating. Hes a friend of mine and hes been like this for the years ive known him. Its very rare he thought everything was great. Hes a massive perfectionist. But those artists are always the best, Constantly challenging themselves. Its what makes him a great one.
I saw they started with 'The pain it is shapeless' the second night and that ALWAYS there best opener.. 'Boden' Is more 'showy' I guess with the spotlight and Colin on his knees and shit bit the intro to TPIIS gets me pumped for the start of their shows more. Lucky I got to see 'Solitary reign' live. Will take a while forthem to play it again but they will. Wouldnt be surprised if they start an Acoustic version on the acoustic shows

Yeah, I was very surprised that he gave me that answer but I still love the dude and the band regardless of it. I’m just as surprised to know you’re actually friends with Colin, deezer haha. That’s very cool though, it’s not often one can say that they’re friends with such and such from such and such band that just happens to be one of the best bands of their kind ever.
Likewise, I think The Pain It Is Shapeless is their best opener too. That’s 3 for 3 that they’ve opened with that song whenever I’ve seen them live, and wouldn’t mind if it happens a 4th time (if I get a 4th time). I was VERY surprised at how well the band translated live in such an intimate space like Vitus. The stage is quite small and just wide enough for everyone to be in their own space, but I almost head butted into Colin several times during the show due to being literally in the front row, haha.

I was in a bit of a bad place a few years ago and reached out to him as I was attending a show in Europe and he hooked me up. I think I probably annoyed him and over stepped my mark a few times for a while haha Like I always do, but over the last few years hes become more of a friend than just the guy in one of my favorite bands and I absolute love that guy and the whole crew. Theyre all just great dudes man. No bullshit. We grew up in the 90s HxC scene and that ego shit doesnt fly.
My perfect setting for them is like a 1000 cap venue with a big screen for the visuals and shit but those smaller intimate shows are great also. In europe the shows are all pretty big now but the UK ones are still relatively small.

you’re so right about Colin being unsure of his singing voice. the first song with clean vocals last night he was very clearly struggling and not liking what was coming out. But once he starts to really project his voice and gain some confidence... his voice can be genuinely beautiful.
And you’re right Acme, last night’s set list was incredible. Very pleasant surprise that they switched it up as they did. I’ve seen so many bands just go with the same set list.

He always struck me as kind of an anxious unsure guy because he faces away from the crowd live but it gives him this kind of creepy intimidating presence. Granted you can tell when he’s feeling it because he’s turned around and in some cases hanging weights off of himself and bleeding everywhere

I can't remember which interview or video it was (might've been a recent one), but in it he explains that he first performed on stage "normally" in his earlier band(s) but then evolved from singing from the audience to his current facing away from the crowd w/the occasional turn to the front. His reason for turning away is to not due to anxiety exactly but he says that he gets in his "space" or "zone" when turning away so to say and that turning towards the audience puts him out of that place. And also, he wants to turn the focus away from him (being the singer and in his opinion the one that gets the most attention) and instead put the focus on the band and the visuals as a whole.

Yeah thats right. Hes really not anxious or insecure in the slightest. But he hasnt always used clean vox and even though they have come on a lot in the last few years especially since doing more solo stuff I think hes sometimes unsure in projecting them. But thats not what Amenra is about I wouldnt sound right singing every clean part like he sings solitary reign. There has to be a softness whisper a vunerablity to it. It shouldnt be a perfectly sung clean I always equate it walking a tight rope he hits the notes but with a fragility that it could always fall. And thats true Acme in his old hardcore days he would be on the floor sometimes, passing the mic out and shit. Amenra live is a whole experience, anyone whos seen them live knows that, thats why he turns.

No Sniff, deezer was directing "Acme" (as in me) in agreement of an earlier remark I made about Colin singing from the audience and passing the mic around in his earlier days.
Should note that the singer of opening band Sunrot did come down and sing in the audience on and off during their set yesterday. IDK, they've opened for Rosetta last April at Vitus (I was there for that too) and they hail not too far from where I live but that appears to be their thing.
