Boney echoes how I feel. Doesn't sound like Kaputt or have anywhere near the songcraft of that record.

Boney, it’s all preference, you have a deep emotional connection with the new War on Drugs that I just don’t get close to finding in there. I most likely never will.

Simplicity is the hardest thing for a musician to make sound good, I think Bejar does it well here, the short tracks are what seal the deal on this one ahead of ‘Poison Season’.

If you want complexity go for ‘Poison Season’ or ‘Destroyer’s Rubies’ i guess

Here he’s released his version of the best ever Cure album, think he’s played a blinder.

From what I understand Kaputt and this are the ones in his discog that actually should appeal to me the least so it could just be that Kaputt was the exception that proves the rule - but unfortunately the rule applied here.

‘Kaputt’ was a surprise, wasn’t sure you’d dig. This is one for the fanboys I guess, maybe you’ll prefer after you’ve listened to more of his stuff.

Either that or you’ve succumbed to a shoegaze related ear complaint ;P

I’m giving this another go and this is what it conjures in me mind.

I’m in a mahogany study being sung to by a leachourous man in his fifties, hair slicked back and an overpowering stench of cheap aftershave accompanies the acidic smell of the cheap whiskey he has handed to me in an even cheaper tumbler.
He is wearing a black silk kimono and he’s clearly not wearing under pants. He’s crooning and rolls onto a chez lounge, his grotesque penis has purposefully flopped out as he looks in my direction, longingly, undressing and devouring me with his eyes.
He rolls his tounge across his teeth as the kimono falls away.
“Give yourself to me zak, it’ll be delightful” he perversely purrs.

I feel uncomfortable. I dry gulp before taking a gulp of the cheap whiskey.

I want to 2 it.

...and then followed by 'Rome', the tune no one else seems to give a damn about but which is another banger and a half.

Not a below 'very very good' song on this baby.
