Nah debut is their best by a longshot and maybe the best USBM album ever.

Very little experience with this band. Might check out Two Hunters and Diadem soon.

The debut epitomizes the Cascadian USBM sound for me. I love the others but that one is special to me.

Two Hunters and Diadem are still the standard for bm on this side of the Atlantic. The rest is pretty good too, but not as fresh as those.

Yeah nah not even close bro. Celestial Lineage blows and is by far their worst imo. First track here is my fav WITTR song.

maybe if the rhythm guitar wasn't hella in the back for no reason, i'd agree. But the mixing/orientation of this album is bad so Thuja is better :ppp That part at 3:30 where it changes to a heavy punkish riff with blast beats has no sense of drive or urgency at all, it's so bad lol. The drums convey nothing to it.

it's the drum sound on this i cannot stand - the kick drums literally sound like he's hitting cardboard. there's no impact or heaviness to it at all.

i'm really glad that i have the live experience to give these tracks context, it brought this record to life for me. 'the old ones are with us' is easily one of the best tracks of their career. gotta say though, i think 'angrboda' brings the album down a bit, easily the weakest track of the main four tracks.

I’ll never understand the hate for Celestial Lineage. It’s better than this for sure

It sucks that celestial lineage is dragged down by some of the interludes because the three big BM cuts are straight up grade A WITTR material imo

I find it pretty easy to ignore though, album is very special to me.

that and it has basically the same production sound as black cascade, which has that nice organic growl to it. This is just kinda tinny with the rhythm guitar too quiet, and relies on the synths (and bass?) for many of the major chord progressions.
