Well they've managed to go their entire career without shitty BTH tier lyrics of 'true friends stab you in the front'
|
| |
that was a Thrice lyric first

I've got the "uncommon" opinion that common dreads is their best
I'm 100% disagree, common dreads is their weakest, they were clueless in what to do. it souds like a limbo between the more "in your face" attitude in th TTTK and the more elaborated sound on their following 2 albums.

Although I appreciate that with CD Rou became more politically aware in his lyrics.

I was a really hardcore fan of Shikari before this dropped so I'm biased. This basically killed my enthusiasm.
Oh and also the cringe of the "fandom". God anyone who identifies as being apart of a "fandom" is always super fucking weird.

ngl enter shikari was the first band i ever got really into (like 12 years ago i think back in 2006) so i still fanboy over them hard. their fandom is fucking irritating tho. but hey we were all cringey teens once (or at least most of us were)

I got into them just a few years ago and had a big obsession with them for ~3 years.
I grew up on crust punk which has more of an enjoyment of the scene as a whole rather than 1 band, which is why this feels so foreign to me.
Guess the whole tumblr-esque fandom reminds me that ES is only like 1 or 2 steps away from being a Panic at the Disco rather than an underground band

As far the Spark - it's not bad enough for a 1.5 but there's nothing that sounds fun or hectic like the last few records have. I really hate the emotional lyrics here & the political stuff was already tired when this dropped.
The end of Ode to Lost Jigsaw Pieces was really cool though, shame it happened on a boring record.
I'm curious to see what they put out next
