"Pretty much a flawless album"

I think Abbey Road is virtually flawless. This one is great but some tracks are a bit less good like Good Morning Good Morning, Within You Without You (Harrison did better songs elsewhere) and maybe Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite.

I think it is their best flowing and most cohesive album. For me it is one of the best examples of a group of professional musicians at their best. Do they have better songs, sure but i think this is a perfect package and the best example of who the Beatles were and what they could do. It's not over done, there is no filler and every track is paired very well with its intro an outro track.

Its a great album no doubt but I would listen to Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, and Revolver any day over this.

I love all the albums we are talking about and feel we are probably spiting hairs here. They really are all good albums so I'll bite the bullet and just say the first album I think of when reflecting on my childhood was Sgt. Pepper. I didn't understand why there was cheering but it was not a live album (when I asked my father told me it was for effect but I didn't get it). It's just always held a sense of glib playfulness that I don't get from the rest of the albums and that just seems to resonate with me.

There are very few album I feel the need to listen to in order from beginning to end and this is definitely one of them.

I find it impossible to actually name a best album of all time.

I agree omni, it can't be done. I honestly like Pepper more than Abbey(I know, unpopular opinion). It's such a free spirited album

I can honestly say that for the most point I view "great" albums equally but for different reasons. Obviously if I say I love Dark Side of the Moon as much as Sgt. Pepper's it can't possibly be for the same reasons listed above lol. But I have no problem putting them at the same level... for me.

I mean Dark Side is incredible, it's just so popular because of how groundbreaking it was. If something like that came out now.. forget about it

I read a book called Pink Floyd and Philosophy and some of the stories people tell about their first experience of buying DSotM and putting it on for the first time are really emotional.

It was groundbreaking because it dealt with subjects that popular music at the time had never dealt

with. I mean Money for example, is all about how evil it can be, and it was a huge hit, and still is.

"I think that either Dark Side of the Moon or.... um, something else, comes closer than most."

"I don't see what was so groundbreaking ABOUT the dark side besides the chart success"

You are blowing my mind bro... you high right now?

Needless to say, Dark Side is truly a look at how warped our society was and still is and that's why

its message will ring true forever. Eclipse just sums up the album so well.

no well i mean pop music/rock/prog/indie/alternative wouldnt be the same without them

they pioneered production techniques, songwriting techniques and just generally wrote brilliantly honest, catchy and diverse music.

they had an effect on an entire branch of music history, more so than any other musical group

in that sense theyre easily the greatest.

now, i think Queen are a better band, but no way could any band be "Greater" than the beatles
