@runaways yeah as amazing as all his hooks are on here, you really don't get a sense of what an exceptional talent/brilliant storyteller Kevin is till you listen to American Boyfriend. incredible album
All American Trash is a bit, well, trash tho give or take a couple of perfect songs

This may be the first time I completely agree with a Pitchfork review. The music is shit hot, but the lyrics are mostly just empty.

Dom on SWIM, TRIP, CASH and MILK, Merlyn on MILK, Ameer on 2PAC, HEAT and MILK etc etc would disagree

I admit the slower songs on the second half are a lot deeper.
Anyway I hope they don't be fucking new-school and not release this on vinyl.

The singles off this album are fantastic. The other songs are very good too. They're growing on me more and more.
Sometimes Kevin Abstract's lyrics are uncomfortably gay for me. Like, "I don't want to play this around my friends." level of uncomfortable. Not that I have anything against gay people, they're free to do as they please, but it just doesn't appeal to me.
Also, Matt Champion's opening line about an old friend of his fucking his girlfriend makes me wince. That's not the way I'd prefer to introduce myself to the public on an album with my crew, haha. Especially when he tends to add a line or two of typical braggadocios "I pull bitches" from time to time on the album.
I do appreciate their honesty.

When I first heard the lyric "Y'all say y'all got bitches / But y'all bitches make my dick soft" I thought it was a subversive statement of gay identity. But then I noticed it's sung by a straight guy and was like "typical rap misogyny, let's move on."
