Halo on Fire drags pretty hard, one of the only tracks on here I don't dig.

--This is the best review of this album that I've read across the Internet thus far. Good to see you're still at it Trey.--

Thanks. I definitely appreciate it.

-- I enjoyed Load quite a bit and Death Magnetic seemed so awesome following up the turd that was St. Anger, but this is the first release since Black Album that gives me that "Metallica feeling"--

I haven't really enjoyed a Metallica album since the Black Album, so this was a surprise to me. I expected to be writing a slightly less enthusiastic review.

--spit out the bone is the best song they've done since the black album--

I have to stick with "Confusion". I love that Justice vibe on the song.

--"They were aiming for marketable the second they were born."

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not...--

Sarcastic or cynical. Metallica definitely brings out the cynical side of people.

--Now it's 'Blakened' which is the ultimate representation of their style to my ear--

Which is one of the few songs Jason contributed to. I wonder how much input he had on that song because it definitely has a Doomsday for the Deciever vibe to it.

'Murder One' - The Lemmy tribute should have a bass solo in it. Then again the bass is not very audiable for the most part of this record. Few exceptions, such as the fantastic 'Spit Out The Bone'.

--Is it me or does Dream have an Alice in Chains vibe going on?--

I hear it too. Kind of that stoner rock/alt rock Kyuss kind of thing.

--I think there are alot of weak tracks on here imo.--

I'm not a fan of 'Manunkind' or 'Am I Savage'. I like the rest.

--Yes, because 8-10 minute blues rock epics and southern/groove rock were all over the radio in the mid 90's. Regardless of whether you like the Load albums or not, the whole 'They were just following the trends at the time' criticism is complete bullshit.--

You're talking like those type of songs dominated the albums as opposed to the 3 or 4 songs spread across two albums that there actually was.

--If you still think they sold out with the black album... well you still think they sold out with the black album. --

If there was a sell out period, I think it was Load, not the black album.

KILL- I just meant that I think this sounds like a more natural progression for the band. I feel like they were trying too hard to sound like they did back in the 80s on the past two records. Just my opinion though.

The opening riff of the album is such a Butthead riff 'duh duh - duh duh --duh duh...duh duh - duh duh...duh duh'

I'd like to say I grew up on Metallica and I'm sure a lot you folks did as well. This album is solid. It's not the greatest thing they've made nor even close to it. In my perspective when you haven't liked an album outside of Death Magnetic in 20 years from Metallica it's a welcoming relief to hear something that's worth listening to. Comparisons aside, I think it's an enjoyable album on it's own. Fans should be pleased if they're still interested in hearing a Metallica album in 2016. If you weren't I doubt you were going to like this to begin with. You can always go back and listen to the classics because they're not going anywhere.

There may be bad and cheesy parts, this has my interest way more than Death Magnetic.

If the albums had been released the other way around (so 'Hardwired' was from 2008) then I think people would be creaming themselves over it for having better song writing.

Surprised people are excited by this one after giving it three listens.

It's a good enough album y'know? It ain't anything great; it's or more or less what you're going to get from Metallica at this point in their career. It's worth the listen, but I wouldn't go in expecting some sort of redemption from Metallica. I had to surf through the awful decade of load, re-load and St. Anger at this point it's passable entertainment to me where I'm not shaking my fist in anger where I'm aggravated by how terrible it is.
