Yeah so this has officially joined the Futures / Bleed American / Clarity tier. No idea where it will rank within that list in the long run, but just to be in the same sentence as those is amazing, especially when I thought they'd never regain their form following Invented and Damage.

I'm starting to feel like this is closer to CTL/Invented tier than Clarity/Bleed/Futures tier tbh. Struggling to find much excitement for it even less than a week after hearing it. Too many unremarkable songs for me.

This is very 'we need something tasteful for the season closer of OC / One Tree Hill'
From their reputation I was shocked to find this makes the Goo Goo Dolls sound debauched and dangerous by comparison
Inoffensive 2.5 all the way

Listened to a couple songs from this, sounded veeeeery 2.5-ey, which I mean is better than bad but yeah not good.

Boney do you dig their other stuff?

I can understand 2.5s for this but this is definitely going back to their earlier roots a bit. Kind of a Clarity/Futures combo, if Futures was more upbeat that is.
@Doofus Do you? Clarity is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. If anything I suggest trying that one. Coming from most non JEW fans(Artuma comes to mind), it's usually the only one you need.

Never listened to an album by them but have inevitably heard a handful of their songs before, always thought they were just another meh popular alt-rock group, didn't know they were actually revered in these circles.

They're revered in most circles.
If you want the fastest way to find out if you like this band, just check out the song 23.

23 is a godsend.
@Boney Just go for Clarity man, to find out why they're a very respected band in the emo circle. It's often regarded as one of the best albums of the 90s by many critics as well, and for good fucking reason.

The vocalist is kind of intolerable from everything I've heard which would probably prevent me from enjoying anything of theirs even if the music is decent.

In that case check out 1994 S/T if you like lofi pop punk (different vocalist) or Static Prevails if you like 90s emo (vocalist sings with a very different style), otherwise there's no hope if you don't like how his voice sounds these days.

Jim's great, but Clarity is where he is at his most heartfelt and emotional. Plus the lyrics are fucking beautifully written. Such a incredible performance from him, which I can't say about most of their records, despite him being a sweet vocalist.
|
| |
Alas I like neither of those styles, they're clearly just not my thing.
If I were so inclined I would try Clarity but with a million other albums I'd probably like more to listen to my motivation to do so is low.

Fair enough, do whatever your gut tells you. Just don't disregard it though cause it's the one disc you're missing out on in this discography ;)

I don't mean to sound overly dismissive, it's a matter of aesthetic - I wouldn't expect most people on this site to go out of their way to listen to half the stuff I like, this is me standing on the other end of that.
|

wow this is actually horrendously bland
|
| |
on my second listen and yea fucking this is offensively formulaic
