This is raw for the modern shuggah as expected. Not the production but the music itself

"you guys have a weird fascination with haake"
i mean he's arguably one of the best drummers in metal today, if not the best soooo
"So, for example, in the title track - it's based around their usual polymetric structure (which you described perfectly), but Haake keeps hinting at a half time feel. So in the first verse when the vocals come in, he keeps bringing it into half time for a fraction of the bar, then jolting it back. It's very subtle, but really destabilizes the whole feel
Another new rhythmic device is in Clockwork, where they avoid the usual 4/4 snare trick for the entire song - Haake seemingly jumps into it about 2/3 of the way in, then derails it with constant interjections that break up the 4/4 groove and prevent it from ever settling in, even opting for a tom groove over the outro where a 4/4 snare would be very obvious.
Ivory Tower has a 12/8 feel, which they already did in Demon's Name, but this is much slower and groovier and explores the potential of that a bit more instead of nonstop double kick. Hagstrom's riffs sound very Thordendal in this one.
Another new concept from Demon's Name is further explored in Rage, in the use of a building 1-2-3-4 pattern. TDNIS was really the one truly rhythmically innovative track on Koloss, so it's nice to see them explore these concepts further.
Anyway I'll review this soon and dig in deeper."
lol, why does everything have to be explained like this? just jam the fucking album and headbang to odd time sigs it's not hard

MO you need to understand Meshuggah's complex polyrhythms in order to enjoy this properly; you just can't understand that this isn't about music, it's about math education. This needs tough analysis and dissection to actually be enjoyed

I found Koloss to be pretty stale apart from a few highlights. It sounds like the band has brought a shitload of energy in bringing this record to life. Might be due to the live recording aspect

yeah on first listen this is far better than koloss

"The opinion that Meshuggah have been releasing the same album over and over again for the past twenty years is sure to be met with disdain from their followers"
probably because it is literally objectively incorrect
do you honest to god think that nothing and chaosphere are the same album
