Can we all at least agree that Expiate is the best thing on Neon? Its the obvious standout track.

the intro has some of their best guitarwork yeah. but my fave track is hyperreality which really snuck up on me. i love the vibe on it

@Tundra I agree with everything in your comment. Even though they are over-utilizing Jesse's vox now, the vox themselves have gradually improved with each release.
I haven't listened to Scorpion, nor do I feel particularly inclined to, but that cover album is just gorgeous.

Although she couldn't save that song Ratchet Happy Birthday, that song is irredeemable lmao

Omg, that track stuck out like a sore thumb.

New album is great

It was surprisingly great and a million times better than Drift. Even the fuckin production was fine.
Album art is still stupid, but that's always forgivable.

Agreed, it was what Drift wanted to be. Jesse sounds better than ever, JT isn't as monotonous this time (although he still is like 90% of the time lol), and there's some dope instrumentation throughout

Neon = 3, Drift = 4

I'm probably going to lower Neon to a 3 too. On second listen I realized how annoying and repetitive the song structures are. It's most certainly not better than this album.
|
| |
I have neon the same score as drift. I think JT improved as a vocalist, but yeah the songs do seem to have a repetitive nature to them. Gonna need a few more listens before I decide where this falls in their discography.

I think both vocalists have improved, but the songwriting has tanked.

Where are yall hearing this great improvement in JT's vocals? Dude is one dimensional. Unless we're talking about how he goes from a mid-range scream to a slightly lower but still mid-range scream.

"Unless we're talking about how he goes from a mid-range scream to a slightly lower but still mid-range scream."
That was indeed what I was referring to.

I’m not sure if it’s tanked, just simplified, sometimes to the album’s detriment. Some of the songs go hard, others fail because they rely on weak hooks. The JT centric tracks standout as the more interesting ones.

I feel that. There are a couple of good hooks on this, but ultimately I think Jesse is singing way too often
|
| |
I’ve come to expect that. That was my biggest complaint about Drift. Jesse just really likes to sing any time JT isn’t screaming. I do wish he would let the songs breathe a little more.

Neon stomps this yea

I will admit I prefer John Mayer's Neon still though
