Moral of the story : Don't be narrow minded.

"Who said pop music wasn't accepted, it's literally the most popular genre of music out there."
yeah but that doesn't mean there isn't a stigma in society attached to pop music

'Who said pop music wasn't accepted, it's literally the most popular genre of music out there.'
The most common criticism for pop is that it doesn't do anything of substance. It may be popular and people may like it, but that doesn't mean its "accepted" by people. It may as well be the minions of music for that matter.

Nirvana changed my life for sure, dunno what your talking about asdfp. Different bands got that different effect on people.

Justin Timberlake has some decent tunes tbh.

Nirvana changed an entire generations lives. It hasn't happened since so there's no context.

all genres are shunned and/or 'boxed' inside stereotypes, but here we're the fucking neckbeard nerds that ought not to do that, since most of us pride ourselves as open-minded listeners of music and dedicate extensive periods of time consuming and criticing music

Pop: the minions of music

You're all talking about bullshit rn

the problem with nirvana is that theyve become so grossly idolized as a god of music by people who never actually grew up with them during they time they were THE THING that theyve become a lazy source of arguing against modern music (thus becoming a meme). So people such as ASDFP can no longer ackowledge their real accomplishments and lasting effect on people because too many people wrongly use them as fodder for half baked arguments over what "real music" is.

There is no stigma against pop music in society. So many people out there just listen to the top 40 for their music. We're on a website full of open minded people who listen to many different genres and don't just stick to pop. Most people in society aren't as passionate about music as us.

I don't want to think about minions, I'm not even entirely sure why I despise them either

carly is not one of those 'garbage' artists, whatever you mean by that (not writing their own music, not knowing about music, not knowing how to play an instrument / singing, et al) and yet here we have y'all

"There is no stigma against pop music in society."
idk man, I don't even know any male friends that admit to listening to pop music
"but there are decent artists out there amongst all the garbage and boi is there garbage"
same can be said for a lot of music, there's tons of knock off bands in the old school death metal scene but people still love that.

top 40 pop has been pretty bad for the last few years, but there are very good things coming from the scene. even if its "disposable" theres a lot to enjoy either for fun or to examine from a songwriting and sound design perspective. Learning what makes these kinds of songs hits and examining growing trends (like anti-choruses for example) in the circle of music is a lot of fun. I'm think of making a few pop centric lists for that sole purpose, i dunno.
