"This way, you admit that the movie just doesn't stand on its own."
i mean, episode 7 is right there in the title... it's not *meant* to explain everything on its own
"If this movie were any good"
yeah okay we're done here i guess

"The EU was gigantic and some of the most ridiculous stories existed in it"
also some of the best, like straight up better than most of the official films
|
| |
the EU will always be canon in my heart.
disney honestly should be adapting a lot of EU material for their animated shows, that would be way cooler than Rebels.
|
| |
They are trying to tell the origin story of the Knights of Ren with Rebels now.
At first Rebels looked like garbage, but now Asoka and Darth Maul are on the show so it looks like something I would want to watch now.
|
| |
Rebels is actually a pretty good show, I especially like how it ties into Star Wars:Clone Wars with the inclusion of all of the Clone commanders like Cody and Rex going into hiding and forming their own secret organization of sorts. Also Darth Maul is in it????
Personally though, I wished SOMEONE took advantage of the EU and made some televised adaptations of select material, too much cool stuff to ignore by simply calling it "fan fiction" by Disney.

Rei isn't OP when you actually think about everything Kylo went thru beforehand. Killed his dad (traumatic whether he likes it or not), just got blasted in the side with an OP crossbow, had to fight against Luke/Anakin's lightsaber outta nowhere (off-putting, feeling of betrayal), he was afraid of Rei's sudden force sensitivity (caution), and wanted to turn her to the dark side (extra caution). He was in emotional turmoil (this is canon I believe), fairly well wounded, and didn't want to kill Rei anyway. With all that going on it's kinda no surprise Rei was able to hold her own for a little while at the end.

Yeah, I get its all a little shoddy in the overall scheme of things. But the zealous ragging on Rey in the final battle is just a tad bit silly.
we should all be ragging on the ground being split in half, let the battle end with Rey incapacitating Kylo or something. This series isnt a stranger to robot arms. Hell, give him a robot leg and we can call it progressive.

For a little while ? She kicked his ass, almost killed him.

so did you just focus in on that one line and ignore everything that zar actually outlined?

To me, The Phantom Menace was the pinnacle of what Star Wars means. Epic Space Battles, great lore and Science-Fiction world building, fantastic story, great acting, quick and acrobatic lightsaber fights with ingenious choreography, and imposing villains with an air of mystery.
Now THAT's an opinion I've never heard.

that comment boils down to "i liked this movie because it did things"
also ingenious choreography? coewffwegWGGWEGTEASgew

Honestly I wish there was more world building in TFA, something the prequels knocked out of the park.
|
| |
I agree. Visually, TFA basically just recapped the original trilogy.
|
| |
hold on was TFA not just a straight-up remake of the first one
|
| |
I think the new movie was trying really hard to play it safe by avoiding everything that the prequels did. And I would have loved to see more world building, too. With the budget and charisma that Force Awakens had, we could have such an amazing next generation of star wars movies exploring the galaxy more with a toned down "opposing" force. I want to say that Rogue One is going to have that covered, but theyre just retreading old ground by nostalgia banking the empire.

| |
Like I appreciate the practical effects in TFA but they used them so much that when they did use CGI (Maz Kanata, those monster things on Han's freighter) it completely took me out of the movie.
|
| |
I feel like Maz would've been out of place regardless of how much CGI or practical effects they used.

we should resurrect Jim Henson's ghost to design a Maz puppet thats a 10/10 idea

The biggest problem for me is that this movie was unnecessary. Why ? Because the saga was COMPLETED. George said it himself - the whole saga was about the history of the Skywalker family and it ended with Episode 6. Everything good about episode 6 is now destroyed by episode 7, because te finale of 6 doesn't feel like a grand final anymore, it doesn't feel like a win when you know there's going to be 3 more movies after that. The whole "chosen one" story got completely trashed in the process as well and now it doesn't mean squat. The whole meaning of the 6 movies before TFA was destroyed.
You know how this would've been better ? If they explored something we haven't already seen. For example The Old Republic era or any other more distant and mysterious era, with a completely new story that doesn't have anything to do with the Skywalker family. But no, instead they wanted to get some cash by hyping and recreating nostalgic moments instead of actually doing something ORIGINAL. That's my main problem.
