Vhiessu is far and away their best. But this is a close third for me, right after beggars

What do you guys think about Salt and Shadow?

It's a nice closer but kind of underwhelming on its own. Was fooling around with it the other day and realized how great a segue it would be into Red Sky if they ever decided to do that live.

Salt and Shadow is the second best song on the album after Hurricane, though only beats out The Long Defeat by a hair.
That chorus is just chills.

Salt and Shadow into Red Sky? Interesting, will try that
I mean I like the song but feels a bit overlong at 6 minutes for me

salt and shadow is musically decent but brings up no emotions whatsoever and i really don't see what the band wanted to achieve with that song

"brings up no emotions whatsoever and i really don't see what the band wanted to achieve with that song"
more or less this whole album

My only complaint is that this album is short as hell, they should've thrown in 2 more songs like death from above (heaviness wise) and the album would've been a solid 4.5

Dustin's lyrics have been poor for the last two Thrice albums, and Beggars was just okay. Too obvious, bad metaphors, etc. Still digging this, but it's tough listening to one of my favorite songwriters deteriorate.

'What do you guys think about Salt and Shadow?'
I think it is easily one of the best here, but the hologram lyric could have been anything else and I would have liked it better. It really threw me back to Water though and I thought it was very successful for how simple it is as a whole.

He's had some absolute gems lyrics-wise for the last three albums but it's true that nothing matches the incredible consistency of his writing on The Alchemy Index and Vheissu, particularly the former.

nah Beggars is fantastic lyrically
agreed with the inconsistency/poorer-quality on M/M and this though

the t/t on Beggars is their best song lyrically so idk

it's also straight up their best song in every other way tbh

I thought their lyrics on M/M were pretty great tbh

yes
"I thought their lyrics on M/M were pretty great tbh"
They can be, but it's hit or miss. Promises is a weaker re-tread of The Weight, Cataracts and Call It In The Air are pretty lame lyrically, and Treading Paper isn't bad on paper but the rhyme scheme feels kind of forced at points to me.

People likening this to mainstream radio rock even when it has crazy time signatures and unconventional tunings is a testament to how good Thrice's songwriting is tbh
